New 'Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei' TV Anime Debuts in 2024

The Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (The Irregular at Magic High School) stage at the Dengeki Bunko 30th Summer Festival Online 2023 event unveiled the main staff, cast, a teaser promo, and teaser visual (pictured) for the sequel anime on Saturday. The new series adapting Tsutomu Satou's action sci-fi light novel will air on television in 2024.

The first anime season produced by Madhouse aired in 26 episodes in Spring 2014. The Hoshi wo Yobu Shoujo (The Girl Who Summons The Stars) anime movie by 8bit opened in Japan in June 2017. The Raihousha-hen (Visitor Arc) television anime premiered in Fall 2020, followed by the Tsuioku-hen (Reminiscence Arc) prequel special in December 2021.

A television anime adaptation of Satou and Yu Mori's Mahouka Koukou no Yuutousei (The Honor at Magic High School) spin-off manga by animation studio Connect aired in Summer 2021.

Satou originally published the novel on the Shousetsuka ni Narou website in 2008. Kadokawa began releasing the title under its Dengeki Bunko label with illustrations by Kana Ishida in July 2011 and published the 32nd and final volume in September 2020. Satou launched the Magian Company sequel light novel the following month. Kadokawa shipped the sixth volume on May 10. Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei has a cumulative 25 million copies of its volumes in print.

Yen Press licensed the light novel in English in 2015 and published the 20th volume last October.

I thought the original anime was okay. Going to need to catch up on the 2nd season and the movie, but I'm definitely planning on checking this one out.

I'm a bit late but anyway. S1 was, all things considered, reasonably good. Movie was really meh, just a filler movie with some fanservice and what not. Visitor arc was, again, its a mixed bag.

I read the novels and IMO, starting around visitor arc and especially afterwards the quality starts to nosedive, and I dunno if introducing EVEN MORE characters is going to solve that, the cast is already gigantic as is.

Mind you, the series, does have some of its own redeeming qualities, but it has a lot of flaws too. That being said, hopefully they can do a good/better job this time.

It's a strange feeling that given how many years its been since s1. I wont say that its amazing or anything, but like I said, it does have some good points if you overlook like, all the bad stuff, so you could potentially recommend it to other people, and/or rewatch it from time to time just to watch the good stuff. Although really its just padding for other stuff.

And I wont even talk about the spinoff, it was somewhat ok, but soo boring since its basically a rehash of the original story from a different angle.

But after all, this will be the third season and the anime already has a spin-off, a prequel OVA and a movie. Why are you so surprised by this?

Was literally just thinking about this anime and listening to Rising Hope again the other day. Ironic.

I'm not sure how to feel tbh since for me the only really good season was the first one, and everything after that was average or plain bad...I really want another good season out of this series cause I do really like it but the past few seasons and side series haven't been up to snuff for me.

Few people know that this LN goes so far with genre tropes and chuunibyo pandering that even the editor of the original work finds it surreal that it became a hit.

To be honest, I am as invested in this series as Tatsuya is an interesting character, but since 8bit adaptation was huge upgrade in comparison to Madhouse version and they are hyping it up, I guess I'll check it out.

The wincest argument aside, I just don't like how intellectual this series tries to make itself look like. But that's the selling point I guess.

Though hope this third season won't be as sleep inducing as the second one was.
