'Shin Tennis no Oujisama: U-17 World Cup' Gets Sequel in 2024
The official website of the Tennis no Oujisama (The Prince of Tennis) franchise announced a sequel for the Shin Tennis no Oujisama: U-17 World Cup (The Prince of Tennis II: U-17 World Cup) television anime on Sunday. Subtitled U-17 World Cup Semifinal, the sequel depicting the semifinal match between Japan and Germany will premiere in 2024. The website also revealed a logo featuring the teams' colors (pictured).
The U-17 World Cup television anime aired in 13 episodes in Summer 2022, marking the first television anime for the franchise in ten years since Shin Tennis no Oujisama (The Prince of Tennis II) aired in 2012. Crunchyroll simulcast the anime with subtitles and subsequently streamed an English dub.
Lead production staff returning for the anime at Studio Kai and M.S.C include director Keiichirou Kawaguchi (Sket Dance), series composer Mitsutaka Hirota (Chuukan Kanriroku Tonegawa), and character designer and chief animation director Akiharu Ishii (Shin Tennis no Oujisama).
The original sports manga by Takeshi Konomi ran in Weekly Shounen Jump between 1998 and 2008. The sequel manga began in Jump SQ. the following year. Shueisha published the 38th volume on February 8.
