The winners of the Anime of the Year categories from the Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2023 (TAAF 2023) were announced on Thursday. A panel of judges selected the winners from a pool of 412 titles that either screened, aired, or were distributed in Japan between October 1, 2021 and September 30, 2022, with 100 titles (80 television anime and 20 theatrical anime) ultimately in the running for the Anime of the Year awards.

Grand Prize
One Piece Film: Red (Feature Film)
Spy x Family (Television Series)

Anime Fan Award
Mechamato

Individual Awards
Writers Category: Reiko Yoshida (Blue Period, Heike Monogatari)
Directors Category: Gorou Taniguchi (One Piece Film: Red)
Animators Category: Yoshimichi Kameda (Inu-Ou)
Visual Artists Category: Etou Kouji (Kimetsu no Yaiba: Yuukaku-hen)
Sound Artists/Performers Category: Ado (One Piece Film: Red)

Note: The Anime Fan Award is awarded to the entry that received the most votes in the general voting. The titles listed for the individual awards are merely titles the recipient has worked on during this period; they are not the sole title the recipient won the award for.

The Tokyo Anime Award Festival is scheduled to be held in Ikebukuro, Tokyo between March 11 and 13, and will in addition to the Anime of the Year categories also present additional entries from around the world for its Feature Animation Competition and Short Animation Competition categories. In total, 31 entries from 26 countries were submitted to the former category, while 872 entries from 63 countries were submitted to the latter. TAAF 2022 Preliminary Selection Committee selected 33 of these entries (four for Feature Animation and 29 for Short Animation) to qualify for the Grand Prize and the Award of Excellence in their respective categories, with each category awarding it to two titles.

Most of Ado's Film red songs were bangers so it's nice to see her getting the award.

It’s always nice to see OP getting recognition like this. Film Red was just about good imo, but I can see why a lot of people might’ve thought it was a lot better than that.

Spy x Family, especially the first cour, was a pleasure indeed.

Pleasantly surprised to see Mechamato here.

Now if MAL can have Korean and Chinese animation on their database, then they can have Malaysian animation here as well right?

Yes, it's not like usual 2-D anime style, but the series itself have mecha-robotic genre, so that it's also getting popular among Japanese fans, especially young kids at there..

That's amazing! \o/
