The 52nd and final episode of the new Shaman King television anime adaptation announced on Thursday that a sequel is in production. The story will follow You and Anna's son Hana.

Animation studio Bridge produced the 52-episode new anime adaptation and began airing in Spring 2021. Netflix is streaming the anime with subtitles and dubs in multiples languages.

The anime adapts the supernatural adventure manga by Hiroyuki Takei, which began in Weekly Shounen Jump in 1998 and ended abruptly in 2004 with 32 volumes. A 27-volume reprinted edition of the manga ran in Jump SQ. in 2008–2009, featuring the series' "true ending."

Takei drew a two-volume prequel titled Shaman King Zero from 2011 to 2014, and the Shaman King: Flowers sequel between 2012 and 2014 in Jump X. Shaman King: The Super Star, the new arc in the manga series, began its serialization in Shounen Magazine Edge in May 2018. Kodansha published the fifth volume on February 17.

VIZ Media published all 32 volumes of the original manga in English between August 2003 and January 2011. However, the company no longer holds the license for the series. Kodansha acquired the Shaman King trademark from Shueisha in December 2017. Kodansha USA licensed the main manga series as well as the prequel and sequel manga in English in July 2020.

A 64-episode television anime produced by animation studio Xebec aired between Summer 2001 and Fall 2002.

Synopsis
Shamans are extraordinary individuals with the ability to communicate with ghosts, spirits, and gods, which are invisible to ordinary people. The Shaman Fight—a prestigious tournament pitting shamans from all over the world against each other—is held every five hundred years, where the winner is crowned Shaman King. This title allows the current incumbent to call upon the Great Spirit and shape the world as they see fit.

Finding himself late for class one night, Manta Oyamada, an ordinary middle school student, decides to take a shortcut through the local cemetery. Noticing him, a lone boy sitting on a gravestone invites Manta to stargaze with "them." Realizing that "them" refers to the boy and his ghostly friends, Manta flees the terror. Later, the boy introduces himself as You Asakura, a Shaman-in-training, and demonstrates his powers by teaming up with the ghost of six-hundred-year-old samurai Amidamaru to save Manta from a group of thugs. You befriend Manta due to his ability to see spirits, and with the help of Amidamaru, they set out to accomplish You's goal of becoming the next Shaman King. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

We really do live in the age of sequels. Dragon Ball Super, Boruto, Fairy Tail 100, Four Knights of the Apocalypse, etc.

The Shaman King sequel manga have never impressed me, but maybe the anime can spruce it up.

Or or the old series had an anime original ending so they needed to remake the series because the sequel follow the manga / reboot series. Nah that can't be it.

If you actually looked it up, you would have seen that boruto is based on a manga, so what's your point?

And if you actually looked at it they had the anime planned before the boruto manga was released.
You're both wrong and right.

The manga came out before the anime but the manga recapped the movie before it started with new content, whereas the anime decided to do its own thing until the manga canon got enough content to actually adapt post movie recap

Either way, Boruto wasn't entirely a cash grab since the random Otsutsuki sub-plot that was shoehorned into the last arc of Naruto needed to be fleshed out and developed since it raised too many questions and left a lot to be desired from it....That and people wanted to see what Naruto and friend's kids could do once they got older

I'm not a huge fan of Flowers so I'm not really hyped for it.
Might watch it anyway, if I ever come around watching the reboot before^^"

The reboot? Disappointing.

But will I keep up with Flowers and the currently serializing Super Star? Sure thing.

I knew that there was a sequel manga and that this could be a possibility but it's still a pretty big surprise. I'll definitely be watching it.

So that's why the original story was speedrunned... Never expected the intention was actually to adapt the sequel that is currently publishing. After all those years refusing to collaborate with a studio, Takei really got himself a golden deal. The final product isn't as golden though.

And now it's following the manga and it's still shit, so once again, what's your point?

My point is you shouldn't be comparing the 2. They are not in the same situation. Boruto is a cash grab similar to dragon ball gt. The other is an adaption that follows the sequel manga.

I hope you're right but I don't have your optimism, in my experience most of "the next generation" sequels end up as pale shadows of originals, but time will tell.

Its nothing like boruto. If you actually looked it up, you would have seen there is 2 sequel manga that they will be basing this on.
