Manga creator Kamome Shirahama announced a television anime adaptation of her Tongari Boushi no Atelier (Witch Hat Atelier) manga on Twitter on Wednesday. Publisher Kodansha also opened an official website, revealing a teaser visual (pictured).

Shirahama launched the fantasy adventure manga in Morning Two magazine in July 2016. Kodansha published the ninth volume last July and will ship the tenth volume on April 21. Tongari Boushi no Atelier has a cumulative 2.5 million copies of its volumes in circulation.

Kodansha US licensed the manga in English in July 2018 and published the eighth volume last September. The ninth volume is scheduled for a June 21 release.

Hiromi Satou began drawing the Tongari Boushi no Kitchen (Kitchen of Witch Hat) spin-off manga in the same magazine in November 2019. Kodansha shipped the third volume last June.

Tongari Boushi no Atelier ranked sixth in the male readers' category in the 2018 Kono Manga ga Sugoi! rankings and was nominated for the 11th Manga Taisho and 42nd and 44th Kodansha Manga Awards in the General division.

Synopsis
Coco, a humble dressmaker's daughter, has always been fascinated by magic and the witches who cast it, despite the strict precautions they take to hide their methods from the public. However, when Coco takes advantage of a golden chance to spy on the skilled witch Qifrey, she realizes that her favorite picture book was a disguised magic book all along! In her excitement, she immediately starts testing out the various spells.

When a spell causes a disaster in her home, Qifrey rescues her just in time and decides to train her, realizing that she is the first lead he has found that could help him track down the Brimmed Caps—a dangerous group of heretics who experiment with forbidden body-altering magic and spread magical artifacts among the commoners. But before Coco and Qifrey can confront the Brimmed Caps, she is going to have to improve her magical skills and learn to get along with Qifrey's other apprentices. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

It's definitely going to be a daunting task adapting this manga especially given the paneling style that this manga has. But hopefully a decent staff should suffice this adaptation and I wish them the best :D

Hopefully the adaptation gets an incredible team to work on it. Though, I have a lingering instinct in the back of my mind that the studio's going to be JC Staff or some other low-tier studio. Maybe it's just me getting Blue Period flashbacks.

I was surprised upon waking up on April 6th and realizing that two source materials (This and Watashi no Shiawase na Kekkon) i had added to my list of "Manga/Light Novels that i would like to get an anime adaptation" had both announced anime adaptations simultaneously on the same day!!! :O

Without a talented team, this would be a complete disaster.

For this wonderful manga only talented staff and studio will be implemented I think.

Hm, I think Kenjirou Tsuda would be perfect for Orugio

A good choice! I was kinda thinking Junichi Suwabe or Shunsuke Takeuchi myself. It's just that I literally could hear Akira Ishida as Qifrey from the moment I started reading the manga so idk if anyone else could take that place!!

don't ask me about any of the girls though. no clue who to fancast

I still think that those who were planning to read should still read it! The manga has fantastic artwork and panelling that just makes it a beautiful read. There’s no telling how many times I stopped reading just to linger on a page. The whole storybook aesthetic really adds to the story.

These features of the story will be difficult to adapt into anime. So please, if you’re thinking of reading, read at least the first volume to appreciate the beautiful artwork and panelling.

I'm looking forward to this adaptation! I agree with the others that mentioned this: Hopefully a great studio will be animating it. It would be a shame for the manga's great art to not shine through in the anime.

First Insomniacs After School, and now this! We're living in lucky times manga fans!

Im so hype but i don't think Its coming out this year, gues have to wait a little longer. I don't think the anime can do the manga art justice unless Its cloverwork, but i hope they do story and power system justice.
