'Jujutsu Kaisen' Gets Second Anime Season in 2023

The stage greeting event for the Jujutsu Kaisen 0 anime film announced a second season on Saturday. The new season is scheduled to air in 2023.

The anime film adapting Akutami Gege's prequel manga opened in theaters in Japan on December 24 last year, grossing over 10.46 billion yen (approximately US$90.7 million).

Jump GIGA ran the prequel manga from April to July in 2017. Shueisha published the manga as volume zero the following December. VIZ Media released the volume in English under the title Jujutsu Kaisen 0: Jujutsu High last January.

Gege began serializing the supernatural action sequel manga in Weekly Shounen Jump in March 2018. Shueisha shipped the 18th volume on December 25 last year. Jujutsu Kaisen has a cumulative 60 million copies of its volumes in circulation, including digital editions.

The television anime by animation studio MAPPA aired in 24 episodes in Fall 2020, adapting up to the beginning of the eighth volume. Crunchyroll simulcast the anime with subtitles and subsequently streamed dubbed versions in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, and Russian.

VIZ Media simulpubs the manga digitally with the Japanese release through its Shounen Jump service and shipped the 14th volume on February 2=1. The 15th volume will go on sale on April 5. Shueisha's Manga Plus platform also began simulpublishing the manga in English in January 2019.

Jujutsu Kaisen won the Grand Prize at the Tokyo Anime Award Festival 2022 in the television category.

Knowing the effort MAPPA's been putting into these, there's no way (and not enough material) they'll just do 1 cour for Gojo's Bizarre Adventure. They HAVE to do Shibuya. I'm thinking they'll cover all of GJBA, some of which they already adapted for JJK 0, and perhaps not do all of Shibuya, but a damn good part of it. Anime-only people are LITERALLY not ready for a week-to-week showhouse. If the production is at least as good as S1, if S1 hit 8.7, S2 is guaranteed 8.85+

Yes, Mappa is on the production committee. Production committee companies
very rarely come out.

Loved the first season, so I hope it can carry that level of quality into the next season.
Though, with that long of a wait, I might as well read the manga from where S1 left off.

Which it might be I guess. But judging by how they adapted Attack on Titan, I don't think it would be.

tbf s1 covered 64 chapters and hidden inventory + shibuya is 71 chapters, so i'd say its doable in two cours so long as hidden inv is only like 5-8 eps long. hoping that if they do adapt shibuya that it's paced well and doesn't rush 😅
