NTV announced on Tuesday a television anime adaptation of Mikoto Yamaguchi and Yuuki Satou's Tomodachi Game (Friends Games) manga, revealing the main cast, staff members, and a teaser visual (pictured). The anime is scheduled to premiere in April 2022 on NTV and BS NTV.

Synopsis
Yuuichi Katagiri has battled financial hardships his whole life but has learned to stay content and positive thanks to his close circle of friends. To keep a promise he made to them, Yuuichi saves up enough money to join them on the school trip. But when the gathered money mysteriously goes missing, suspicion falls on two of Yuuichi's friends: Shiho Sawaragi and Makoto Shibe, who were in charge of collecting the payments. Although innocent, Shiho and Makoto take responsibility for the failure to protect the money when no one else comes forward.

A few days later, Yuuichi and his friends receive mysterious letters which trick each of them into meeting up. Upon arrival, they are ambushed and knocked unconscious. They wake up in a mysterious room in the presence of "Manabu-kun," a character from a controversial children's show that stopped airing due to its malicious content. He informs the group that one of them indirectly gathered them together in order to settle a large debt. They are to play a "friendship game": a series of games that will test the strength of their bond and trust in each other. As the group's faith wavers due to the growing number of secrets and betrayals, Yuuichi must figure out who of his "friends" he can actually trust and ultimately discover the identity of the traitor. Is it because of the success of 'Squid Game'?!

I'm not really into game anime, but it's tagged psychological. So I'm interested in how much psychological elements I will get from the show. The manga is highly rated too making it more intriguing.

Oo this may be a hidden gem. Imma give this manga a read later lol.

Damn, stories involving these kinds of psychological games are my absolute favorite. I immediately started reading the manga after I saw this thread and just finished catching up to the latest chapter. I'm definitely looking forward to the anime. More than anything, I'm interested in seeing anime-only watchers' reactions to everything. Hope they could nail the characters' most entertaining face reactions lol.

Hmm, I should glance the manga to get a feel for it first before the anime drops next year.

All these manga I've read are getting adapted to anime ( Sasaki and Miyano, Spy x Family, now Tomodachi Game). I only started reading Tomodachi Game beacause a certain scene in chapter 11 ;).

Tomodachi Game is hilarious. If you thought Akira from "Deatte 5-byou de Battle" was a sociopath, get a load of Yuuichi from "Tomodachi Game" lmaooooo... He's a grade-A bastard ( but I can fix him jkjkjk).

Anyway, I hope the anime turns out well!!

Seems like its riding on that wave, they should have made a adaptation for it in 2015 then.

Still good news its a pretty good manga.

They did. It had two movies and a TV series.

Squid Game has ripped off a bunch of survival manga. Liar Game, As the Gods Will - to name a few.

It definitely wasn't the first so people should stop acting like it was.

Ah yes, here comes the obligatory "I'm gonna hate on a popular series just because it's popular" comments all because said persons are so fickle and shallow that they can't handle people comparing their beloved series to it even though the premises (And probably the themes) are very similar *Derp*

There's a difference between hating on a series and hating on it's fanboys lol

The show is hella good - but it's not the first and not unique. As I mentioned above, it ripped off a lot of Japanese media.

Even the director said he was influenced by Japanese Manga but SQ fans don't want to give credit where it's due.

Oh nice didn't know it already had live action movies and tv series. Will check them out thanks.

That idiot was definitely doing the latter though lol

But yeah....Korean stans can be pretty unbearable sometimes when it comes to anything korean that is produced, so I'm not surprised that they're saying shit like that

It gives me a sense of nostalgia for the days when Game of Thrones was very hyped and any fight between factions was compared to this show.
The good ol days....Before the show went to shit after Season 6

I’m sorry I offended a virgin
That's the best you could come up with? A virgin accusation? What are you 12?? xDDD

Thanks to this announcement, I began reading the manga. Really interesting. MC is very clever and savage.
I hope this adaptation will be high-quality but I'm worried about the director and studio.

YOOOO This is getting an anime?? I'm kinda hyped but then again the studio for this is kinda new. Hopefully they'll be able to adapt this properly.
