'Shuumatsu no Walküre' Gets Second Anime Season

The official website of the Shuumatsu no Walküre (Record of Ragnarok) anime series announced a second season on Wednesday. Character designer Masaki Satou drew an illustration to commemorate the announcement (pictured above).

The first season will be broadcast on television in Japan on October 2 at 12:30 a.m. on Tokyo MX and BS11, followed by MBS at 2:55 a.m. Cartoon Network will also air the anime on Sundays at 11:00 p.m. beginning October 3. The anime streamed worldwide on Netflix on June 17.

Shuumatsu no Walküre adapts Shinya Umemura, Takumi Fukui, and illustrator Ajichika's dark fantasy battle action manga, which began in Monthly Comic Zenon in November 2017. Coamix published the 11th volume on June 18. The manga has a cumulative 7 million copies of its volumes in circulation.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in June and plans to release the first volume digitally on October 26 and physically on January 18, 2022.

Synopsis
High above the realm of man, the gods of the world have convened to decide on a single matter: the continued existence of mankind. Under the head of Zeus, the deities of Ancient Greece, Norse mythology, and Hinduism, among others, call an assembly every one thousand years to decide the fate of humanity. Because of their unrelenting abuse toward each other and the planet, this time the gods vote unanimously in favor of ending the human race.

But before the mandate passes, Brunhild, one of the 13 demigod Valkyries, puts forth an alternate proposal: rather than anticlimactically annihilating mankind, why not give them a fighting chance and enact Ragnarök, a one-on-one showdown between man and god? Spurred on by the audacity of the challenge, the divine council quickly accepts, fully confident that this contest will display the utter might of the gods. To stand a chance against the mighty heavens, Brunhild will need to assemble history's greatest individuals, otherwise the death knell will surely be sounded for mankind. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

I am one of the people in the minority that was really hoping for a 2nd season!! Really happy and excited about it, honestly wasn't hopeful because everyone hated the 1st season

Season 2? To be honest I didn't really expect s2 from this anime. For me, the manga is enough, but many people don't read the manga. So, I can only hope that season 2 is more interesting than season 1. I can't wait for the Jack the ripper fight

It's a good thing that it's getting a 2nd season. Since the manga is too good to worth not adaptating. And the show also ended on a cliffhanger. I want to see all of it animated! (Hopefully they don't rush through the 2nd season)

Name a case where a crap S1 becomes decent at S2.

Anime usually stays at the same level of production all seasons, OR get a drop of quality (lolOverlord S3, OPM S2, each season of Date a Live getting worse) somewhere.

Quintessential Quintuplets changed studios, and animation wise it was definitely better than the first season.
