The World Trigger Super Stage at the Jump Festa 2021 Online event announced a third season for the anime series on Saturday.

The second season will begin airing on TV Asahi's NUMAnimation programming block on January 10 at 1:30 a.m.

World Trigger adapts Daisuke Ashihara's sci-fi battle action manga, which he launched in Weekly Shounen Jump in February 2013. The manga resumed after a nearly two-year hiatus in October 2018 and transferred to the monthly Jump SQ. magazine in December that year. Shueisha published the 22nd volume on June 4, with the 23rd volume planned for a February 4, 2021 release.

The first television anime produced by Toei Animation began airing in Fall 2014. The anime series was originally listed for 50 episodes, but was later extended to 73 episodes. Toei subsequently produced an English dub with Canada-based company Ocean Production in July 2015.

The second season was announced at the Jump Festa 2020 event last December. Morio Hatano (Dragon Ball Super, Saint Seiya Omega) is serving as the series director for the new season, replacing Mitsuru Hongou and Kouji Ogawa.

VIZ Media licensed the manga in English in 2014 and now publishes the manga simultaneously with the Japanese release through their new Shounen Jump platform. The 21st volume shipped on November 3.

Synopsis
When a gate to another world suddenly opens on Earth, Mikado City is invaded by strange creatures known as "Neighbors," malicious beings impervious to traditional weaponry. In response to their arrival, an organization called the Border Defense Agency has been established to combat the Neighbor menace through special weapons called "Triggers." Even though several years have passed after the gate first opened, Neighbors are still a threat and members of Border remain on guard to ensure the safety of the planet.

Despite this delicate situation, members-in-training, such as Osamu Mikumo, are not permitted to use their Triggers outside of headquarters. But when the mysterious new student in his class is dragged into a forbidden area by bullies, they are attacked by Neighbors, and Osamu has no choice but to do what he believes is right. Much to his surprise, however, the transfer student Yuuma Kuga makes short work of the aliens, revealing that he is a humanoid Neighbor in disguise. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Awesome news! I just finished season 1 this week and despite all its animation, pacing and other problems, it still managed to be one of my favorite things I've seen in a while.

So happy they are taking seasonal approach now. WT absolutely deserves better produciton values.

So first cours season 2 and second cours season 3? So do we know how many cours we'll get per season?
there are 82+ chapters no to be adapted yet so they can make 3 cours of anime.

Imo this is best decision to make WT as seasonal instead of long runner like Season 1 so they can maintain the quality. First 10 minutes is already displayed and anime is improved by a lot

I don't know how popular this manga is, but the fact that it gets its third season even before the second season premieres is really impressive.

seems like this season will be short one, which mean good news for production value!

First of many announcements in the ongoing Jump Festa '21 event, one would imagine, but this is really tough to top, honestly.

Can't wait for more World Trigger! Knowing that there will be a Season 3 will definitely make Season 2 more intriguing.
