Aniplex opened an official website for the Japanese dub of Mo Dao Zu Shi (Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation) on Saturday, revealing a teaser promo and key visual (pictured).

The first two seasons of the donghua will air in Japan under the title Madou Soshi with subtitles on WOWOW beginning September 9 and November 4, respectively. The Japanese dub—produced by Aniplex and Sony Music Solutions—will premiere on WOWOW and Tokyo MX in January 2021. Whether or not the January dub broadcast will include the second season has not been specified.

Synopsis
Xian: the state of immortality that all cultivators strive to achieve. However, there is a dark energy that lies underneath—the forbidden Mo Dao, or demonic path. Through an unfortunate series of tragedies, this is the path that cultivator Wei Wuxian experiments with during his teachings. His rise in power is accompanied by chaos and destruction, but his reign of terror comes to an abrupt end when the cultivation clans overpower him and he is killed by his closest ally.

Thirteen years later, Wei Wuxian is reincarnated in the body of a lunatic and reunited with Lan Wangji, a former classmate of his. This marks the beginning of a supernatural mystery that plagues the clans and threatens to disrupt their everyday life.

Mo Dao Zu Shi follows these two men on their mission to unravel the mysteries of the spiritual world. Fighting demons, ghosts, and even other cultivators, the two end up forming a bond that neither of them had ever expected. [Written by MAL Rewrite]

Produced by B.Cmay Pictures and Tencent Penguin Pictures, Mo Dao Zu Shi adapts Mo Xiang Tong Xiu's Chinese web novel of the same name, which was serialized from 2015 to 2016. The 15-episode first season streamed on Tencent Video from July to October 2018, followed by an eight-episode second season from August 3 to August 31 last year. A third season is scheduled for 2021, and a chibi spin-off featuring 30 five-minute episodes began streaming on July 31.

Si us tge dub out yet. I am personally more interested in the Japanese Audience reception to this. more than the dub itself.

I already know they changed the Opening and ending songs. that alone felt to Anime and Japanese (If you know what I mean) as the Chinese Opening and ending kept to more of a mystic feel and the lyrics of that opening where deep and thoughtful.

Anyway if anyone knows of any Japanese reviewers on Youtube. I would be interested in seeing what they thought of the show.

Honestly surprised Kings Avatar hasn't gotten a Japanese dub yet.

I 'm not a fan of the dubbing of Mo Dao Zu Shi because it takes away alot of the Chinese original. I'm going to stick with the original version of the anime/donghua even so it's tempting to watch it in Japanese.

Time to re-watch, it seems. Gonna be extremely weird and cool at the same time.

Cool. I was planning on watching this but I'm not used to hearing Chinese so I'll watch this instead.

Must watch this in Chinese though. Very different experience , nothing like a normal historical fantasy anime.

Absolutely!
Chinese sound is gorgeous, voices and music. Wei WuXian in the animation totally enriches the character of the novel, his ever-kind and teasing timbre resonates with the book, so together it is a very powerful artistic impression.

It'll be interesting to hear the voices they choose.

Maybe the same as the Audio Drama? I really hope so cause they got some very popular VA for it!

The Japanese dub will bring a lot of new fans to the franchise so it can't be a negative aspect as there are many anime fans that couldn't watch the original because of not being used to listening to Chinese; I had a hard time watching as well in the beginning but it is really worth it!! (read the novel too~)
Going to watch this out of curiosity of course. Hopefully they don't change the names (the synopsis was lowkey weird ngl).

Official SVSSS summary is also..something.

An ordinary youth——Shen Yuan who is a reader of the novel<crazy fairy magic road>.After read the book, he scold out activation code and trigger the mysterious system so that he cross into the book world and penetrate into the body of villain ——Shen Qingqiu.

Needed to re read it 3 times to get it. How did they manage that, <crazy fairy magic road>... Even Airplane Shooting Towards The Sky would be ashamed ;-;

I recommend watching it in Chinese, then Japanese. I've already seen this beautiful show once (currently rewatching it) and I'll be happy to give the Japanese dub a chance.

Excited to hear that the anime will receive Japanese dub too. I listened to the Japanese dub of the drama cd a few months ago. In the drama cd Wei Ying is voiced by Suzuki Tatsuhisa and Lan Zhan by Hino Satoshi. I got too used to with the Chinese version but will still watch the Japanese dub if it's available.
