3DCG Anime Series 'Obsolete' Announces Staff and Cast

The official website of Gen Urobuchi's Obsolete 3DCG mecha anime series unveiled the cast, production staff, the main visual, and a trailer on Monday. The anime will debut as a YouTube Original series on December 3.

The opening theme, "obsolete," is written and produced by Skrillex and Nik Roos. Technoboys Pulcraft Green-Fund is performing the ending theme "ORB-SOLUTION."

Urobuchi developed the anime's original plan and is handling the series composition. Hiroki Yamada (Kaze no Matasaburou (2016)) and Shirato are directing the series at CG animation studio Buemon. The latest episodes will be available to premium users first before they're streamed free of charge for regular viewers.

Unlike others here, I dont really care if the show has bad art or bad animation or terrible CGI , I just need good background music.

The staff is really good. Takahashi is involved which was obvious from the start. Animation seems to look better during mecha combat but ultra-stiff with people. Hope this isn't a wasted potential. Urobutcher, you never know if hes suicide bombing his shows on purpose or what.

I wanted to really like this PV but it seems like they took concepts from Innocent Venus, RideBack, Armored Core V, Muv-Luv, and Sidonia and mashed it all up with bad CG. I'm sure if the animation turns out to be more on the Blame! or Sidonia end of the spectrum it'd be in my strike zone, and I want to give some benefit of the doubt to such a strong staff as well.

The real thing that breaks it for me is YouTube Original. I'm more than cautious about the prospect of YT anime, Urobutcher notwithstanding. Thankfully they are airing it free as well so maybe I will give it a chance when it does air just to see if the animation is better.

The framerate is half of what Aikatsu and Aldnoah Zero's CG animates at, wtf, they have the budget to do at least 24-30 FPS.

A Skrillex theme song?? This just keeps getting better xD A crappy CG, YT original mecha anime, WITH Skrillex... I can't wait to see how this unfolds.

I wonder if it will be releasing weekly or if they'll dump all the episodes on December 3rd?

if only they made it full FPS lol the limited FPS only works well enough on cel shaded 3DCG but not on this style of 3DCG

and any news on how many episodes this will have?

Looks pretty interesting, will definitely give it a shot at the very least. Didn’t think I’d ever see Skrillex working on the Op of an anime so that’s really intriguing in one aspect. Hopefully, this’ll lead to more anime productions going for the YouTube route.
