At the ceremonies of the 41st Japan Academy Prize last Friday, the live-action film adaptation of Yoru Sumino's 2015 novel Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai received multiple awards.

Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai (Let Me Eat Your Pancreas) received the Popularity Award, which is voted on by listeners of the All Night Nippon radio program on the Nippon Cultural Broadcasting station. It opened in theaters on July 28, 2017, and went on to earn 3.52 billion yen in the Japanese box office to become the fifth highest grossing domestic film of the year.

Actress Minami Hamabe (Saki Miyanaga in the live-action drama adaptation of Saki) and actor Takumi Kitamura (Yuuto Shiba in the live-action film spin-off of Koi to Uso) also received Newcomer of the Year awards for their lead roles in Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai. The film was also nominated for the Picture of Year and Screenplay of the Year awards but lost in both categories to director Hirokazu Koreeda's original film Sandome no Satsujin (The Third Murder).

An anime film adaptation of Sumino's award-winning novel was announced last August by Aniplex. That film is scheduled to open in theaters in Japan this fall. A two-volume manga adaptation was also published last year.

It wasn't anything extraordinary. It was actually quite tame, even with Nodoka.

It's surprisingly. Especially after the film based on Maria-sama practically turned the subtext story into a almost real lesbian romance.

I'm scared to imagine how Saki's fanservice looked in a live-action film, but I still hope that the success of Kimi no Suizou wo Tabetai means that the anime adaptation will also be just great. I love a good romantic drama.

If I can comment, its great live action. Usually when im watched anime or manga adapted into live action is so bored.
I hope the anime movie will be the best work of this year

Now I hope the anime movie delivers as well, the quality of the novel was definitely award worthy.

That's nice. I hope the anime movie does well. And I hope fans would support the manga and novel adaptations too.

I watched the film with high expectations but ended up disappointed though. (Since the flow was super similar to a local film I watched beforehand, I felt like I watched the same film twice. I think if I didn't have that in mind, this would have left me in awe.)
