Manga 'Hataraku Saibou' Gets TV Anime for Summer 2018

An official website was launched announcing that Akane Shimizu's anthropomorphic manga Hataraku Saibou (Cells at Work!) will receive a TV anime adaptation slated to broadcast in July 2018.

Synopsis
This is a story about you. A tale about the inside of your body... According to a new study, the human body consists of approximately 37 trillion cells. These cells are hard at work every day within a world that is your body. From the oxygen-carrying red blood cells to the bacteria-fighting white blood cells, get to know the unsung heroes and the drama that unfolds inside of you! The manga has been serialized in Kodansha's monthly Shounen Sirius magazine since January 2015 and has five compiled volumes in print, with the latest released on August 2017. The manga won seventh place in the male readers category in the 2016 edition of Kono Manga ga Sugoi rankings. A special animated commercial was released with the manga's fifth limited edition volume in July 2017.

Kodansha Comics USA has been publishing the manga in English since November 1, 2016. The fifth volume was recently released in November last year.

Really looking forward to this. Sure it's an old idea (I've seen it in many cartoons) but the fact that it's a whole series has me intrigued.

Dont think you will find scanlations anywhere. Its officially licensed so I read it at a local bookstore

I dont think its possible for cute ditzy airheads to be tsundere. But theres not even any romance so -dere archetypes dont even apply here anyway.

And yes, it's a comedy (or most characters would have already died due to their limited lifespan) but there is regularly a "new monster chapter" to introduce some bacteria & co., with the unavoidable fight ensuing. And blood. More than you would expect (despite that the manga is often taking place in the blood circulation system).

This is pretty much a comfy slice of life Osmosis Jones with a Death Note L and a ditzy Shirayukihime lookalike as the protagonists. Very fun and cute. Not to mention informative. Learn all about the human body and its complex functions through the daily life of anthropomorphized Cells!

The manga is a real gem that hasnt gotten much attention, so I'm glad that someone out there recognized its potential and is giving it an anime. There isn't anything quite like it that can so smoothly incorporate educational elements into its plot without making it feel like "ugh, learning". Its just a genuinely entertaining story.

Check it out when it airs!

This "type" of fictional stories are always more premise intersting then they end up being. But I'm rooting for it. Hope for some good comedy and what not.
