A special event titled "Hanamaru @ Biyori!" held today in Makuhari Messe, Chiba, Japan has announced that the production for the sequel to the TV anime series Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru has been decided. To commemorate this announcement, an illustration of Yamatonokami Yasusada and Kashuu Kiyomitsu drawn by character designer Junichirou Taniguchi was released. The story of the sequel as well as other production details will be revealed at a later date.

Touken Ranbu is an online card collectible game which spawned two TV anime adaptations. The first adaptation by studio Doga Kobo, Touken Ranbu: Hanamaru, aired from October 3, 2016 to December 19, 2016 with 12 episodes. The second adaptation by studio ufotable, Katsugeki/Touken Ranbu, is slated to premiere in July 2017.

Huh? What are you talking about? Touken Ranbu Season 2 katsugeki will be directed at UFOTABLE not Doga Kobo get your facts right lol you're embarrassing.

Katsugeki isn't Hanamaru's season 2 though. Katsugeki and Hanamaru are different anime inside the same franchise, but with no correlation between each other.
What was announced here was Hanamaru's season 2. DogaKobo is the responsible for Hanamaru, so they're doing its s2.

What a waste.
Still waiting on Nozaki-kun's S2 (or for Doga Kobo to make something good again).

I'm guessing Doga Kobo is working on multiple sequels. Not a big fan of this series but good for the fans.

Dogakobo has almost no say in whether Nozaki-kun gets a season 2 or not. That's for Square Enix to decide. Dogakobo is just the studio. And apparently the people behind TouRabu Hanamaru felt it did a good job so they're making more of it.

It may be a waste to you, but to the production committee, it's anything but a waste.

I don't think I'll binge watch this season, it wasn't a really interesting series but I didn't hate it so I'll probably watch it whilst it's airing.

Most of DogaKobo's works were good imo. Tho they could have made something else out of their lineup (tho they only made like... 2 sequels or 1 if I recall, not really sure, but I know they made Yuru Yuri which is a sequel except for San Hai)

Not really surprising considering it sold very well over there plus the fanbase is pretty damn big in Japan (Note that I haven't finished S1 yet). But at the same time though if I recall they only made like 1-2 sequels but I can't remember much (the studio's end). I think it's a rare occasion for them to do this though.

Not really surprised, after all it sold pretty well.

I thought season 1 was quite fun, so I'll probably end up watching it.

While I didn't find it groundbreaking, it was a cute little show and I liked it despite knowing next to nothing about the original game. I'm glad it's getting a sequel.
