Monday's Love Live! Sunshine!! Niconico Live program announced that the Love Live! franchise continuation will receive a TV anime in Summer 2016.

Love Live! Sunshine!! is part of the multimedia Love Live! project co-developed by Dengeki G's Magazine, animation studio Sunrise, and music label Lantis. The new project was announced last February and revealed in the June 2015 issue of Dengeki G's Magazine.

The new series follows the nine-member school idol group Aqours (pronounced "aqua") at Uranohoshi Girls' Academy in Numazu, Shizuoka Prefecture. Chika Takami, who is a fan of Otonokizaka Academy's μ's school idol group from the original Love Live! series, similarly forms Aqours in order to save her school from being closed down.

Aqours' first single, "Kimi no Kokoro wa Kagayaiteru kai?," was released on October 7, 2015, with the music video animated by Sunrise. The group's second single was announced at the Niconico Live broadcast for release on April 27, 2016.

Kazuo Sakai, who directed the music video for the first single, will direct Love Live! Sunshine!! with character designs by Yuuhei Murota.

Looking forward!!

implying Cinderella girls was a bad show smh

It was a disasterpiece, it has a terrible cast, and the second season was ruined by far too much drama, it's like they were pulling a WUG but failed to see why WUG is decent in the first place.
well atleast the doujin is good.... right?

I do not think relating CG to Sunshine makes sense. Cinderella Girls was based on a mobile game that had a ton of idols with one note personalities (baking sweets, ganbarimasu, etc). The anime tried to appease fans of the franchise by stuffing as many as they could into the anime, which (as an anime only viewer) was frustrating because I felt no characaters got a chance to develop because new girls kept getting the spotlight.

Sunshine is a spin off of Love Live with nine (not over 20, but nine) new girls. That to me is already less of a disasterpiece in the making than CG, which was almost guaranteed to be a clusterfuck.

Also, how can you say the group is such a mixed bag? There has been one single...It seems really early to judge the quality of all the characters.

Cinderella Girls was a disaster because they let a bad script writer in charge of it (same guy who wrote The iDOLM@STER Movie crap)...... I would assume based Jukki Hanada will be coming back to write the script for Sunshine so I don't expect it to suck that much. Although the change in director is a bit of a worry.

Saw this coming.

Well these new girls are going to have some big shoes to fill in because i don't see none of them coming close to touching my goddess Maki.

I know that feeling.. I am a Pile fan, not maki lol We will see, I expect aqours to perform at Kouhaku and Tokyo Dome if they can <3

well can't say i'm surprised normally i'd say idolmaster is the Pokemon of idols but just from everything i've seen i think Love Live has surpassed it or is a very close second these two are just mad popular in japan so they gotta make that money!.

not sure how i feel about a new cast just with Cinderella Girls they could end up bad personality wise

I'm hyped for this! Tbh i don't know what to feel if aqours can dethrone µ's track record xD

I will watch it with great pleasure.

Well it is a very popular franchise in Japan regardless of how it is here. I for one am very happy with this. Love Live! (µ's) was amazing in itself with its content of music and characters were all likeable in their in own sense. I have high expectations for these new girls and can't wait to hear more from them.

And here we go again xD

Since Chika(the orange hair girl just in case you dunno) is a fan of Muse and is inspired by Honoka to become a school idol, So I think Muse might make a cameo.

Wow... That's kinda surprising. Didn't think it'd come this fast. I mean, they could've taken their sweet time to get me more attached to the characters outside of the anime but fine, whatever Sunrise.

I just hope the original group can make a cameo in the new series.

If they can surpass the original I'll really be impressed though.

Oh yes! I was waiting for the anime announcement. I'm looking forward to this. But I am not expecting they'll surpass the original.

The next generation of LL idols taking over? Let's see if they can match their predecessors' success.

Making them younger (judging by the visuals) though isn't helping its cause. No need to cater to *that* audience...

Huge fan of the franchise and I just dont get some of the hate comments from the nostalgiafag Love Live fans and trolls who pretend to watch this *cough* he who shall not be named *cough* This was going to happen eventually..

Looking forward to this! I dont feel the need to place high expectations on this since it does not deserve to be placed on a pedestal. I cant go wrong with more Love Live even if its a slight change of personalities. That does not mean I am bluepilled and a fake Love Live fan though, it just means I am pretty easy to please as it is.

Totally excited for this!

Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls sold well and look how that anime ended up, a complete disasterpiece. That just doesn't relieve the unease and it's worse in one case because while the main cast was bad for anime, most of them are ok as characters, Aquors is a general mixed bag as a group, I cannot trust that anything but the art and music will be good and I wouldn't have mind a different plot as well.

But the issue also involves the Sunrise.

Sunrise has 13 sub-studios (or they cut it to 12 last year). 8th one is making Love Live.

They have 14, 10 of them under Sunrise name and 4 under Bandai Namco Pictures name
