Fourth Season of 'Tenchi Muyou! Ryououki' Announced
An official website has opened for a fourth season of the original anime Tenchi Muyou! Ryououki. The series is the original work of the Tenchi Muyou! franchise, which spans three OVA seasons, four spin-off TV series, and various movie, manga, and light novel adaptations.
Tenchi Muyou! Ryououki was created by Masaki Kajishima, and 20 episodes were released as OVAs between 1992 and 2000. The series was previously licensed in North America by Pioneer Entertainment (later Geneon USA) until the business unit closed in 2007. FUNimation Entertainment rescued that license in 2008 after reaching an agreement with Geneon to distribute its titles.
Further information will be revealed at a fan appreciation event to be held on November 28, 2015. It is a double event to commemorate the recent spin-off Ai Tenchi Muyou! and the new Tenchi Muyou! Ryououki series.
Two cast members from the original series, Masami Kikuchi and Ai Orikasa, will be featured as guests for the Ryououki segment of the event alongside Haruhi Nanao, who starred in Ai Tenchi Muyou!

Pretty much.
Anyway, anything other than the main OVA series is non-canon.
Not quite, series (GXP, Isekai no Seikishi Monogatari) , Omatsuri Zenjitsu no Yoru manga (by Kajishima) (especially the Omatsuri Zenjitsu no Yoru Omake Ban is pretty important one manga itself AND after words by the man himself) and novels that stemmed from OVA are all part of the canon. Kajishima go all the way expanding the universe and never stopped, although some of it just random bits and blips here and there.
What I meant is that Tenchi Universe, Tenchi in Tokyo, and the movies are not part of the main OVA series.
Sorry about that, I should have been a bit more specific.

Masaki Kajishima, the original creator is not dead and still alive.

COOL!!! - one of my all-time favorite series. Hopefully they can bring it back to the glory of the first two seasons - the third wasn't all that great (which of course is understood, seeing that the original creator died).

I'm glad so far, this looks like it's going to continue with the Main Series of the OVA with Tenchi Masaki as the real protagonist and not a spin-off. No, Idea what direction they going to go, it can go north or south. I will be keeping an eye on updates for this.

isn't AIC pretty much dead? wonder if another studio (e.g. IMS) is doing this
A lot of people who stayed at AIC have moved on now. Roughly twenty organized under WillPalette and are helping IMS with Shinmai Maou no Testament this season. They're working at the same location, so it's a combined effort.
As for Ai Tenchi Muyo, the line producer joined Hiroshi Negishi's company, G-Zero (a quasi-revival of Radix/G-Zero Room). Recently, they re-acquired rights to Saber Marionette and Master of Mosquiton through a new subsidiary, AIC Project (not Anime International Company, but they seem to be licensing the same logo and branding), so it's possible that they have their eye on Tenchi Muyo as well.

I do hope that they incorporate Kiyone into this as I absolutely love her character. She's one of the main reasons as to why I love the Tenchi Universe series as well.
