Light Novel 'Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku' Gets Anime Adaptation
ACES is the eighth volume in the Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku series, written by Asari Endou and illustrated by Maruino. The light novels have been published since 2012, and a manga adaptation began serialization in the November 2014 issue of Comp Ace. A drama CD was released with a fan guide book in February.
Synopsis
The highly popular social network game "Magical Girl Raising Project" is a miraculous game that produces real Magical Girls with a chance of 1 in 10000 for each person. Girls who are lucky enough to gain the power of magic spend fulfilling days. But one day, the administration arbitrarily announces that "There are too many magical girls so they will be halved." The curtain will now be raised on the relentless and merciless survival game between 16 magical girls. (Source: Baka-Tsuki)

So since I finally received the third volume, which was out of stock for age (they made a new print of them together with the anime announcement), and having read up to the 3rd volume now (the anime is probably going to go up to there if it's one cour, which is the most probable), I'll have to change my opinion about this one. The second arc (volume 2-3) is actually extremely enjoyable. The tension in the last part (which should be the last part of the anime) was impressive. The characters are far more likeable in this arc as well.
So yeah, I wasn't really convinced with the first volume but I'm actually looking forward to see it animated now. That's a show that will probably be not really convincing for 4-5 episodes since the first arc isn't as good, but that should be a very enjoyable ride for peoples sticking with it.
Also, wow Pfre is amazing. I'm going to look at the anime just to see her. I hope they give her a seiyuu I appreciate, because damn. Damn, Pfre. Absolutely awesome.

No thanks, I've had enough of mirai nikki.
This. It will be the next Genei in terms of unneeded edge.
Psychological-thriller Mahou Shoujo shows isn't? Definitely a must to me.
One question is can't this beat Genei or not. But if looking again at the synopsis its not telling about being killing each other and its feels like just our assumption or interpretation of us of this being thriller anime until we see the official pv or trailer.

Say hello to Princess Tutu.
Princess Tutu is the one and only 1st original Deconstruction of Magical Girl Genre and it came out around 2002.
About Magical Girls and Deconstruction, there's a debate on Utena's status a a magical girl.
Claiming that Utena is not a mahou shoujo show is as ridiculous as claiming that Kickass is not a superhero movie.

Madoka is only series that got it right, the others turned out to be below average.

"it sounds so deliberate it's painful" -> you haven't read the explanation. I can't say anything there without spoiling, but the reason is completely natural.
I did read it. That changes nothing. The fact that it uses the word "arbitrarily" doesn't help its case.
No you didn't. I'm not talking about the MAL synopsis, I'm talking about having read the first book here.

It depends on your definition of psychological honestly. There's a werewolf game so suspicion and the like will arise, but not sure it's enough to say it's psychological. That's not really the main focus of it ImO.
