The manga is written by Yoshiaki Tabata and drawn by Yuugo Okuma. It debuted in November 2011 in Young Champion and is a prequel to the original Black Jack manga by Osamu Tezuka. Young Black Jack currently has seven volumes in print, and its eighth volume will be published on May 20.

The original Black Jack series received various anime adaptations including TV series, OVAs, and movies.

Synopsis

Thinking back, Blackjack was pretty awesome, but for some reason I can't see the franchise aging too well. I'll likely give this a chance though.

I have like zero expectations of any shounen, but I have to at least remember to check it out since it takes place in the 60s. That could be somewhat interesting.

But when it comes to shounen, first ass pull or exposition dump through outspoken monologue and I'm out. Just because your demographic is children doesn't mean you have to dumb it down to goldfish level.

More Black Jack will always be a good thing.

I've heard of Black Jack before but never bothered to check it out. I'll use this as my opportunity :))

I really enjoyed the OVA + movie and although this is written by someone else it should still be fun.

A prequel not by the original mangaka... that modern bishounen look he has looks off-putting.
Why all the classics anyway? I don't think it'll get them much money. Plus plenty of good stuff that are more recent (aside from romcom harems) to adapt out there that they are overlooking. :L

Though probably will watch. Haven't gotten around to Black Jack anyway.

It's nice to still see Tezuka manga getting appreciated and getting new adaptations and interpretations in 2015. Sometimes it feels like the industry is trying to push out the classics and pave over them with a new more erotic and flashy appeal, but clearly somebody still remembers. I predict TMS and a 5 o'clock prime time slot.

Damn, I totally forgot to watch the old Black Jack series.....gotta marathon 'em all.

I recommend the OVA from the early 90's by Osamu Dezaki. Great interpretation and excellent cinematography to them.
