New TV Anime 'Dragon Ball Super' Announced for Summer 2015

A completely new TV anime series from the Dragon Ball franchise titled Dragon Ball Super was announced by Toei Animation today. The series will feature an original story by Akira Toriyama, the creator of the initial Dragon Ball manga. Dragon Ball Super will premiere in Summer 2015 on Fuji TV and will air weekly.

The story will take place chronologically after the Majin Buu Saga arc, which is currently airing in a remastered version that adheres more to the original manga. Titled Dragon Ball Kai, the TV anime began airing in April 2014 and will complete in June 2015, just prior to Dragon Ball Super. This series is a continuation of the original Dragon Ball reboot, also titled Dragon Ball Kai, which aired between April 2009 and March 2011.

DBZ was one of my favourite shows growing up so news of a Dragon Ball series definitely intrigues me.
Definitely going to have to dig out and re-watch my old Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z DVDs to get reacquainted. Nostalgia-fest here I come!

DBZ has a better japanese dub, not to mention Kikuchi's soundtrack (fuck Funimation and Faulconer).

Kai has a better english dub and has way less filler.

Either or, but Z's filler is incredibly monotonous to sit through, hence why I generally prefer Kai.

Screw Kai and go with DBZ. YES it has filler but imo it ADDS to the story. At least for the most part anyway. Soundtrack is just SOOOO much better too. Better voice acting imo.

The original experience is the best. Then again. Thats how I seen it back in the 90's and times after that. If I saw Kai first then MAYBE I'd like that better.

If your watching the dub for kai then just watch DBZ. Its the best version. Dunno bout sub though. Soundtrack is old school. Not feeling it all too much but I'd sayu it sounds better than Kai. WAY better.

Don't most people nowadays only rate DBZ highly due to nostalgia? Can't say I've seen a single person who watched DBZ after already being fairly familiar with the anime medium and actually loved it.

I won't be watching this until it's dubbed anyway.

I've just started watching DBZ as well as watched some of the movies and I love it, I did play some of the games when I was younger but never remembered to much from them so DBZ is still pretty fresh to be and I'm enjoying it a lot.

It's not a remake. It's a whole new series taking place after the Buu saga. What didn't you like about Dragon Ball Kai out of curiosity. Because it's literally Dragon Ball Z minus all the filler, unless you didn't like Z to begin with which would make sense.

@DrGeroCreation He was technically threatening Earth once they fucked up his wish. Freeza literally said once he was done on Namek he was going straight to Earth. You are right about the rest though.

Epic Fail ! In the Namek and Frieza sagas Frieza was not a threat to Earth. The Namek saga focused on getting the Dragon Balls to wish back the z fighters who died in the saiyan saga before Vegeta or Frieza got them and wished for immortality.

Majin Buu was a threat to the universe and other world not just earth.

You obviously don't know what you are talking about.

I looked around for 3 whole days making sure it was official when it was announced. I actually fell for it the first time when a new series was "confirmed" after Battle Of Gods.

Regardless to say I was ecstatic when it was confirmed official. Toriyama is also overseeing the series and has already given the plot so we won't have another GT (hopefully).

I'm also really happy we're getting it so soon and don't have to wait till 2017 or something.
