Survival Game Manga 'Aoharu x Kikanjuu' Gets TV Anime

A scan of the wrap-around band of manga Aoharu x Kikanjuu's sixth volume reveals that a TV anime adaptation will be announced with the volume's release on February 27.

The survival game manga series started as one of three one-shots created by debut mangaka NAOE for Gangan Online. Released on July 28, 2011, it follows childhood friends Yukki and Matsuoka. While children, they dreamed of pursuing professional soccer. Now a hentai mangaka, Yukki reunites with Matsuoka and is introduced to his new passion: survival games.

After it gained popularity, a sequel one-shot consisting of two parts was published in GFantasy starting June 18, 2012. The new one-shot introduced Hotaru, a high school girl who dresses as a boy. She goes to confront a host that tricked her best friend out of her money, only to find out that he is none other than her neighbor, Matsuoka…

The series was finally promoted to a full series in GFantasy's February 2013 issue. A PV was released for the manga in September 2014.

Totally agree. I think as a general thing Square Enix (who run all Gangan publications) tend towards more varied and less genre-trapped manga than their competitors. Also tends to be an awful more western-appeal in the publications. This does apply especially to Gangan Online, which in my eyes seems to be a place where they publish non-commercial manga that they just happen to think are good.

For those that are thinking this is a reverse harem series: I'm not sure if you realised that the series is published in GFantasy. Other titles serialised in this magazine include Pandora Hearts, Kuroshitsuji, Kimi to Boku., Nabari no Ou, Zombie Loan, Cuticle Tantei Inaba, etc.

Basically, they are shounen series with primarily male casts that are also written to appeal to the female demographic. This isn't a shoujo series, so the chance of a reverse harem is very low. We're probably more likely to get important non-romantic relationships between the male cast members, and maybe a bit of romance with female chars thrown in.

Ni~ce! This may turn out to be a quite refreshing adaption. Tachibana and Mattsun remind me so much of Haruhi and Tamaki ( ´艸｀) I hope the seiyuu casted for this will fit their roles... Looking forward to how this will be received~
