Actually, what's with the sudden need to make recap movies of every series lately? Might as well not make the anime series... *sigh*

well... recap is better than nothing.
I disagree. Recaps are completley worthless, the few recap movies i saw were poorly done b/c they moved way too fast for anyone who hasn't seen the original.
They should have just done a fresh new story. I don't understand this fascination with recap movies, outside of the limited expense of them considering they probably just reuse the same material from the anime.

A recap movie lets a viewer catch up on episodes they might have missed when it was originally airing, or lets them (re)watch the series without interruption. Purchasing a ticket lets them support the studio more directly than buying merchandise would, at less of a cost than it takes to own the whole series (for those who aren't as dedicated), and the studio gets an extra boost for future projects from material that they've already made/invested time, effort, and money in.
Since there's no scarcity of episodes for the simulcast audience, the news is not as exciting for us as it could be, so it's understandable to be disappointed that it's only a recap (moreso, when the topic title doesn't indicate that it is).
But the people who feel indignant about recaps (or wonder why they're a thing) should consider the actual audience it was intended for, instead of thinking that companies are doing things for foreign markets all the time (which they aren't).

Recap movies really are the rage these days. I can see why they're made but they seem so very needless to those who have seen the respective shows already. At any rate, it at least gives us a rough estimate as to when the sequel will air.
