The military band of Japan Ground Self-Defense Force played the OP theme song of "Fresh Precure!" at the commemorative ceremony of the 35th anniversary of Takigahara Garrison.

The band also played the theme song of "Yattaaman" at the ceremony. (Video on Niconico Douga).

It's well known that Japan Self-Defense Force has an attachment to otaku culture. They painted the characters of "Ah! My Goddess" on a fighter,

and played "Macross Frontier" songs at an aerial show held at Iruma Airbase last November.

It looks rather cute to be piloting a military jet fighter with anime designs, sort of like itasha. However, I wonder how it feels like to use the fighter jet in actual battle or military operation..

Pilot: "No.. I better not let the paint get scratched.."
Enemy: "What the hell... Is that...?"

*laugh*

When I saw the headline I was SO hoping there was a video and I'm glad there was. Not something I'd especially think of the JSDF doing in their spare time, but I guess I shouldn't have been surprised. They're pretty good though. Seems like the perfect song for them. Beautiful weather they were having that day too.

that's pretty funny XD
But Macross music epicness increased 10 folds with the fighter jet planes zooming across the screen.

Its kind of like how American soldiers spend their time playing the xbox, Japanese soldiers spend their time watching anime x__X
note: I read that in the newspaper article, so don't kill me if its not true.
