Fantasy Light Novel 'Seiken Tsukai no World Break' Gets Anime Adaptation
Synopsis
Written by Akamitsu Awamura, the series takes place in a private high school involving the concept of "saviors." They are known as people who possess awakened memories of their past lives. The story tells of a young boy named Moroha Haimura who comes to this private school. At the school, there are two types of people: Saviors, who fight enemies with weapons and techniques gleaned from the Puraana powers from their own bodies, and Kuroma, who wipe out enemies with magic to manipulate the Maana powers that surpass physics. Moroha Haimura is the first person with past lives of both Shirogane and Kuroma. (Source: ANN, edited)

Admittedly I though it was a different series for a second. Premise looks interesting, I'll be looking forward to it.
That one already had an anime announced I thought. Anyways, seems like this could be good. The past memories and distinction between magic/weapons could be interesting .
I thought the same thing, and was wondering why something that had already been announced was being announed again.
Anyway, series on my long list getting adapted = will watch.

And you CAN enjoy everything you like. I say this every damn time, but somehow people seem to be mentally challenged when it comes to seperate the facts from the personal opinion.
You CAN enjoy this and if you watch it you probably should enjoy this (it will be nothing but pain otherwise). But then please don't pretend it has no flaws and look down on people who are not as tolerant as you when it comes to overly tropy and formulatic anime as "haters" when they rightfully get tired of the same stuff.
And I guess you missed all the classes in school when they told you about how literary critcism and evaluation works. The fact that you still confuse critical and objective seems to support that.

And why is "I enjoy it so it must be good" any better? Great, you enjoy Twilight. Is it now a very well written story that is easily as good as Kafka and if we disagree we are haters? Or is it all the same because there is no quality in books and it is all entirely subjective?
I'm talking about the enjoyment factor. And yes, that is indeed entirely subjective.
[ quote]
Because that is what a lot of people here seem to believe and they are wrong.
Wrong? About enjoying things? Thats hilarious.
Stop with the double standard.
What double standard?
I don't feel offended, I just want to know why people like you seem to have this ridiculous idea that they can be objective about entertainment.
"Haters" get a lot of flak and they seem way more mature when it comes to coping with criticizing/having a minority opinion than some of the "typical crowd" here who enjoy watching these shows season after season.
Haters? Mature? Now thats funny, you're free to hate what you want. But putting down others because of it is anything but mature.
Then again, I also did that when I was a teenager, so I can't really blame those who do.

A lot of people here are quick to say "hater", "troll" or "judgemental elitist", but can't deal with the word "drone" or "someone with low standards". That's all I was going on about.

But honestly: That is just deceiving yourself at this point...
I'm rather sick of the way the majority of harem/LN romcom shows are executed myself, but let's please stop pretending we understand other people's personal entertainment preferences better than the people themselves do. Or that it's even any of our damned business, because it's certainly not.
I also agree with this. This whole 'I don't enjoy, so its objectivilly bad' attitude is rather annoying.

Stop with the double standard. I can udnerstand that you might feel personally offended because you - for some reason - identify so much witht he products you consume that they become a part of your personality but please: "Haters" get a lot of flak and they seem way more mature when it comes to coping with criticizing a different opinion than some of the "typical crowd" who enjoy watching these shows season after season.

To be honest this whole 'it's all the same' nonsense is just self-reinforced belief. You expect it to be the same, so you pay attention to every similarity, and then point it out at every opportunity, thus reinforcing everyone else's same attitude. There's no more similarity in this genre than in any others.
Or perhaps shows like this really are generic crappy adaptions of generic crappy LNs that were written with exactly the same tropes to target exactly the same audience. Except for their little gimmick Strike the Blood and Machine Doll last season were completely interchangeable in every respect and the same goes for Mahou Sensou this season (well, except that Mahou Sensou manages to be far worse).

In the end you have to either start avoiding these topics of conversation or you end up getting affected by the virulent and harmful* attitudes being constantly banded about. Which then means that the whole thing is left to those infected, who serve to constantly fester their disease, and periodically launch out on another strike targetted at battering away at others until they too join the zombie-like hoardes...
*harmful to your enjoyment, of course - not physically harmful.

But the main giveaway for the target audience is how short and cheap these novels are, 200 pages and about 500 yen per book. If they were really targeting the main otaku market, they'd be much more expensive. They're sold cheap, to keep them affordable for teenagers.

wikipedia suggests light novels are aimed at middle school to highschool students. So they always have a ready audience "coming of age" to whom it's all new.
And we tend to forget that most people in Japan, male or otherwise, are not actually Otaku with amazing anime knowledge. The hot girls on every LN cover don't just appeal to Otaku, they give the books broad appeal to young men.
That might explain how they can get away with such blatant ripping off of older series. These are aimed at average young males who are not really "Otaku" so you can roll out the cliches and they think it's the best thing ever because they can see that hot chick who was only hinted at in the LN they read when they were 14.
Is that actually true? LNs are so steeped in Otaku tropes I find it hard to believe that youg males who are not Otaku would like them. Remember, those characters are hot only to us anime fans who like that style. To non-anime-fans they look wierd.

Wouldn't one eventually get bored of the same shit over and over and over again?
It's rather easy to say this about things we don't like while happily buying/reading/watching as much as we can get of things we do.
One would have to be a mindless drone to enjoy every such show. Personally I would've probably shot myself already at this point.

And despite their audience continuously changing, the authors keep whipping out the same ol' stories every year. Instead of writing one good novel and pointing interested people towards it, we get another cheap story, created with a template for writing shitty light novels. And that's the really sad part.

Agreed, I can't see anything in this whatsoever to set it apart from last 1000 shows that had this same basic plot. Boy, at school, has powers.
The only characters listed on Wikipedia are him and 4 girls. Clearly harem, they don't even bother giving him a proper friend or rival. And it's light novel / action / fantasy with 6 volumes. What that always means is 4 episode long "arcs" where they fight a different "big bad" at the end of each 4th episode, then it settles back to harem/slice of life in the next episode (See, A Certain Magical Index, Strike The Blood or Unbreakable Machine Doll for how this works). Because of how they are sold, light novels are written to have stand alone stories, unlike mangas which have continuous plot-lines, and the seems between volumes are very apparent when they are adapted to anime.
We have multiple shows like this every season. Fall 2013 had at least 4 almost identical shows like that: Kyoukai no Kanata, Tokyo Ravens, Strike The Blood, unbreakable Machine Doll. And Winter 2014 currently has Magical Warfare, Witch Craft Works amongst others.
So, we only average something like 12 nearly identical shows like this per year. Time to get real excited about this new one. The difference is that this new one doesn't even bother with a "gimmick": he has 2 overlapping powers. Great, so he's just an overpowered "chosen one" for no reason ...
I don't agree with KnK being part of that particular group, but concerning the rest you pretty much nailed it.
What's so difficult for me to understand is why Japan keeps buying those novels. Wouldn't one eventually get bored of the same shit over and over and over again?

And degrading, fanboying, etc. doesn't matter as it doesn't change the content of the show. If it is generic it will stay generic and adding crap or "unique in small details" or "but I like it" or whatever else won't change the fact that the structure is the same as 99% of the other series in that genre atm.
Your disappoval or approval of the way the arguments are presented doesn't degrade the criticism brought forth.
Why are you so riled up anyway? Because I said some people may possible delude themselves into liking the same stuff over and over again without getting tired because they know that it is not good deep insight their consciousness and need to justify it through VA love or whatever? Come on...
