Takeshi Obata, who drew the popular manga "Death Note" and "Bakuman.," will be adapting Hiroshi Sakurazaka's light novel "All You Need is Kill" into a manga starting January 9, 2014 in Young Jump.

"All You Need Is Kill" revolves around a battle-armored soldier who finds himself dying and reincarnating over and over again during an alien invasion. (Source: ANN)

I'm pretty sure most novels don't come with illustrations inside.

All you Need is Kill doesn't have any illustrations inside. Neither does Slum Online (another novel by the same author) yet they are classed as light novels.

The Lord of the Sands of Time is the same length and is published (in English) by the same company and also doesn't have any illustrations inside yet it was rejected from MAL's database because apparently it's a "written novel" and not a light novel.
