Yamada: "It's very powerful about love. The previous work told stories about the people around Tamako, but this is Tamako's story. Tamako... well..."
Takemoto: "Increased the amount of braids she wears?"
(Audience laughs)
Horiguchi: "The mood of the movie ver...."
(Starts to stop chattering)
Takemoto: "Everyone's gears are going. Please forget what you heard!"

An extra/movie/OVAs seems like a reasonable go, but I don't see myself picking up another whole season of this.

So the K-On copy gets a new project. Wonderful.
No but really, this sold really badly for KyoAni standards. Why a new project for it? Hopefully it'll just be a short OVA series or something.
In what way did you think Tamako Market was a K-On copy exactly? Due to the fact that it's a moe anime? The adorable girls? I mean, other than that, they don't have the same plot or story at all. Just because they're both moe animes doesn't mean you can equate every moe anime to every other one out there. That's like saying every action anime is the same, or every sports anime is the same. There's always something that makes it different and special and Tamako Market definitely stands on its own two legs and definitely is not a K-On copy.
Hopefully it gets a complete second season.

KYOANI, WHEN U ANNOUNCE SEASON 2 OF FREE!?
Oh god no....
>Not wanting a second season of Free!
Anyway, should probably get around to watching Tamako Market. Recently I've been in the mood for cutesy type animes.

Exactly what the anime industry needed.

heck, i never knew what mochi was till this show, so if this show is to promote japanese culture or to something of that degree, then it does its job.

The things I really liked about it was the end song and her dad's song from episode 9.

You know I very much dislike just about everything Kyoani and it's more diehard passive aggressive fans stand for, but in some ways I respect the attempt to give a show that wasn't as well received a second go.
I may very well be the only person on this planet who loved Munto, so I am speaking with a little bias, but I agree you absolutely: gotta love a company that has so much faith in their products that they will force a reconsideration. I don't think they will be able to resurrect Tamako (except if they go the Yuri route, not a big Yuri fan but it seems the right course for this story), but I respect them for beating that horse until they know it is dead.
So kudos to KyoAni, not always a fan (and understand why some hate their fans), but I salute their marching to their drummer, not the markets.
....yeah about that....I didn't quite mean it that way but I suppose you're free to read it how you did. I just know they are hardly the only ones that do that sort of thing, but god help me if people aren't going to probably try to build a mythology out of it and act like they're the only ones that have ever considered anything other than the profit motive. Everyone needs a hero I suppose :s

What? I thought Tamako Market had sold poorly.
who knows, made it's funded by the food/agricultural industry or something. heck, i never knew what mochi was till this show, so if this show is to promote japanese culture or to something of that degree, then it does its job.

I wouldn't go so far as to say it's "for the art", but it makes them looks like more than just crowd pleasing otaku panderers for a change.
Anyway yeah sometimes BD sales aren't the be all end all people. Phi Brain, Aikatsu and even Gundam AGE got followup projects despite none of them having all that impressive sales and I'm sure there are some none-kid show examples in recent years too, I just can't think of them off the top of my head, but some people here put WAY To much importance on this idea of sales as a measure of quality and factor for sequels.
Those are heavily supported by merchandise though, it's the same reason we get a new Precure each year, the merchandise sells like hotcakes, this is not.

Hope it's just an OVA? If it's a TV series or a movie then I've lost all hope in KyoAni. Clearly whoever is in charge of that studio has no damn idea what they are doing anymore if they are going to waste time and resources on a sequel to a critical and commercial failure.
You don't have access to the same data as Kyoani(the complete BD sales, not just the ones we have information on, merch sales etc..)
And selling 4k~ is hardly a failure in the first place. Now if it only sold 2k, you might have had a point.
4000 sales is barely even profitable for a KyoAni series. It's only about twice what Nichijou sold and Nichijou was of the largest flops in recent history. You can't compare KyoAni sales to the average when they spend far more money on each series.
I don't see anybody talking about Tamako Market anymore. I don't see any notable merchandise. It was a completely unremarkable anime and has no need for a sequel. It's an utter waste of time when they could work on a different project instead.
Once again, you don't have any access to the information that kyoani has. Its not possible for you to make statements on whether its profitable for them or not. Even for Kyoani, 4k is not a failure. A failure would imply they actually lost a ton of money, in which case they would never have done another project on it.
Even if it only broke even, that still means that it is a low-risk series that might make some profit. It carries way less risks than animating a new original anime series. They are already doing a 2nd season of chuuni, and I wouldn't be surprised if they announced a 2nd season of Free! in 2014. So they already working on their more profitable projects.
