HBO is in Talks with Guillermo Del Toro to Adapt Monster into TV Series
Del Toro will be co-writing with Stephen Thompson (best known for his writing on Doctor Who and Sherlock.) The project was originally planned for a feature film, but proved too complicated to fit into a normal feature-length time frame. Del Toro was eventually able to convince Naoki Urasawa, the author of Monster, to talk to HBO about a TV series instead.

Another great thing about this is that if it does go ahead, and is popular, which i am very sure it will be, we will most likely see the monster manga be printed again.
And maybe Viz will finish the DVD release.
That would be awesome indeed.

Ever seen Don't Be Afraid of the Dark? Yeah, not excited about this.
I'm kind of excited for this. I hope this will turn out good (and successful).
Pfff.
I really WISH it would be a Breaking Bad tier series, but I know it probably won't. Though filming the gun guy and the girl and a bunch of other characters would be MUCH easier comparatively to other series.

Didn't watch the Anime, but seems like Johan is mostly emotionlessly smiling and very calm, not very hard to act.
But that emotionless act of Johan's is hard. I mean, it's in the eyes, the smile, the voice and the way he carries himself. I know you didn't watch the anime, and that is why I was sugesting you check the ep 29. It's the one where Johan makes the detective Richard Braun commit suicide. A good ep to watch Johan at work, with sound to make it even better (another reason why I sugested the eng dub, cause by the end I can't take my eyes away from it).
My opinion at least.
Exactly, Johan is going to be nowhere near "easy" to act. That scene gives me chills and shows just what an amazing character Johan really is, the show will truly be riding on them finding a good actor for him.

I don't know why people are so adamant that this will ruin Monster. Del Toro has said that before Urasawa Naoki would sign off on the show he wanted to see the layout for the whole first season. Which Del Toro wrote, and Urasawa approved of, so how could it suck?
It's all in this video (3 mins or so)- http://twitchfilm.com/2013/06/guillermo-del-toro-talks-about-his-adaptation-of-urasawas-monster.html
Thats because people don't read. You are completely right about Urasawa getting the approval of the show.
Its also reverse-xenophobia. "westerners touched it now it will suck".
Never mind that Del Toro made freaking Pacific Rim - pretty much a love-letter to japanese anime culture
Never saw the show, it still looks bad to me.
But yeah... The assumption that Just becuz it's made by hollywood = its bad is a stupid thought. Japan makes PLENTY of bad Live Actions. Though that's probably due to the transition from 2D to 3D. However, Monster is fairly realistic and involves Caucasians as the majority of the cast, so that would work out PERFECTLY instead of using Japanese actors(You cannot imagine how many times I banged my head when Thermae Romae was acted by Japanese actors)
Actually, Johan doesn't have to act all that much, since most of his screen shots are just flashes of him giving his signature smile.
S yeah... If he's used to doing smiles, hes pretty much set for this role!
St is, if I am right, I am on chalter 100 or so, then stopped, so d no too mu
Mmh, I don't have that idea. The manga can be a bit deceiving, since it's image oriented. Go check the ep 29 from the anime. It's one of my favourites and has a lot of Johan (probably better to see in english dub since that is what most likely awaits us with the adaptation).
@Fai - Couldn't agree more.
