Sequel to 'Royal Space Force: The Wings of Honneamise' Relaunched

GAINAX has announced a new anime movie titled "Aoki Uru" at Tokyo International Anime Fair 2013. The title was originally announced as a sequel to Ouritsu Uchuugun: Honneamise no Tsubasa in 1992. However, the project had been frustratingly stalled due to a shortage of funds.

Dear God, they're actually making Aoki Uru?

This is the Honneamise sequel project they wanted to make after Nadia: the Secret of Blue Water in 1991.

Problem was they couldn't secure funding, and basically spent the next 3 years in limbo...

Until Hideaki Anno came up with the idea for Evangelion.

Needless to say, the funk the writers were in for three years beforehand (Anno had severe depression) at not being able to get Aoki Uru off the ground really influenced the tone of Evangelion.

It was a good movie with what I remember as an unnecessary and weird rape scene. Hopefully less of that this time round.

Ah, about time GAINAX!!! Definitely looking forward to it. Hopefully GAINAX puts EVA rebuild movies-tier production values into this.

Jesus Christ it was in production for 20 years due to lack of funds? That must've been frustrating. Meh, it's about space and stories about space is always cool, I'll check it out.
