Not sure why you say it is a filler season. Continuation, new chapter, focus shift, expanded worldview are all descriptions I have seen for DD 2nd season, but not a filler. If you say it is a filler, you are saying that this 2nd season is not really necessary and the story can just continue from 1st season to a 3rd season without much problem, but that would ignore a whole new country, two new Yusha, two important ancestor characters and a few other new characters introduced in the 2nd season. Perhaps you are thinking of the grand battle in the 1st season that is very much lay dormant in the 2nd season. Since the anime staff made it clear that they intentionally shifted the focus away from hard fighting against powerful monster, I doubt any kind of grand scale adventure type of story will make it to 3rd season if one is ever made.

Dog Days will sell (in terms of passing the breakeven line), but the key question is how much drop in sales will it suffer compared to 1st season. The bad jokes going around among some fans in Japan are the "Ika Milky course", a reference to the huge drop in sales for the 2nd season of Ika-musume and Milky Holmes. Both Yuru Yuri and Dog Days are identified by some fans to be the prime candidates to be a successor to the "Ika Milky course" The answer would hinge on how much of the sales of DD or YY happen on storefront because the figures as shown on Amazon are not too encouraging so far.

I agree, the ending doesn't seemed quite right. I hate how animation studios tend to insert an anime-original ending, while the work itself is already a masterpiece. Plus, Another is a very niche anime and not all people could cope with such bloody horror.

Actually I beg to differ. It is common practice for fans in Japan (those who cared about sales figure) to make guess of how well an anime would sell before the season started or at the beginning of the series, usually before the Stalker's figure is available. I still remember even then the guesses were near 10,000. So your theory that people who don't follow Stalker should find TT's success surprising does not really stand on firm ground.

I think you may need to define what it means by "top selling".
The rule of thumb in anime industry is that 10,000 represents the level where a "big hit" is. And it should not be just the vol.1 sales, but the overall average for the whole series. Tari Tari has not reached that level yet. At 8000-9000 it is clearly a hit though.

As for the reasons why it has good sales and is popular, I mentioned what they might be in previous week's BD sales thread.

And jmal, I don't agree with saying that everything is subjective. There are great, good, fine, average and bad things. Personal taste can change private rankings completely for some individuals but nonetheless we can say that x is overall better than y.

Fate/Zero II was delisted off Amazon for quite some time due to that debacle between Aniplex and Amazon. Thus, stalker wouldn't be such a good representation in this case. I'm predicting ~45-55k, since the 1st BD Box sold ~51k.

And jmal, I don't agree with saying that everything is subjective. There are great, good, fine, average and bad things. Personal taste can change private rankings completely for some individuals but nonetheless we can say that x is overall better than y.
I guess Another's results made me think too highly of PA Works' fanbase.

It probably will but we probably won't find out about it. But then if we counted that then the 10k sales list would be far less exclusive; every series sells quite a bit more after it drops out the rankings.

Why? It has consistently been rated in the top three in terms of "Currently airing" shows in polls on Japanese sites and was projected to sell nearly twice as many discs than it did by one site. (That site evidently always over-estimates sales and was off by a similar margin on their Madoka prediction, of course, the numbers are an order of magnitude higher for Madoka!)

Tari Tari has been one of the most successful shows of the season on both sides of the pacific. I am just curious why folks are so surprised that it is selling relatively well?

The fact that it was #1 two weeks in a row is surprising, but that is just because there were no new releases this week. Next week, when it sells another 500 or so, it will drop way down behind the new stuff.

I still hope it clears 10,000 total for volume 1!

Sales were pretty good. 8-9k for all volumes I believe.

Summer Wars has sold approximately 250,000 all told, in all versions.
