Manga Author of Kaiji Promotes Anti-phishing Scam Campaign as a One-day Police Chief

According to Sankei News, mangaka Fukumoto Nobuyuki served as a one-day police chief at Zushi City police department. He distributed handouts of Kaiji to promote the campaign to eradicate phishing scams via phone. On the handout, Kaiji tries to stop people from paying money to swindlers.

Fukumoto was invited to the police station because one of the officers was his childhood friend.

Fukumoto is awesome. He's my favorite manga-ka and I am a rabid Kaiji fan so this is kind of awesome.

And he does like quite boss in that uni.

My reaction.

Kaiji and apparently every other FKMT series seem to put gamblers and swindlers and their supposedly superior intelligence on such a high pedestal. The premise of his stories are basically the more sneaky you are with your swindling ways, the more you win and the cooler you are. And now he's using those same characters to promote anti-phishing scams?! orz
