By comparison, a lot of the shows that rank high definitely deserve that spot. AnoHana, Steins;Gate, and Hanasaku Iroha are shows that are definitely worth the purchase more than Nichijou.
Also, I don't see the ecchi titles selling that well. Only Dog Days and Hidan no Aria are doing quite well, and even those shows aren't pure ecchi-fests and at least have some story in them (though whether it's any good or not is up for debate). And there is virtually no show without any kind of fanservice whatsoever, so complaining about that is pointless, if you ask me.

This BAD LOOKS like most of japanese audience that watch anime and buy it like ecchi and porn staff after a while we see ecchi and now we see only ecchi
Apparently it's bad that people like fanservice, but it's okay to kill humans and live with anime creators, who I suppose are not humans. Yes, it's as nonsensical as it sounds.
but they can watch it online for free
And so what?
In order for a manufacturer to keep producing consumer goods, consumers need to consume them. Shocking.
so why fuck didnt funimation put anime in tv like cartoon network...stupid
if i own a company like funimation anime wii be great in US.....not

Some, like Madhouse and Shaft, seem to not give a shit though.

I think he's referring to the large amount of ecchi purchases.
But it's no shit they're high. The whole fucking point of buying the BR of those shows is to see them uncensored and HD.
The TV versions are just big BUY THE BLURAY ads.
i think some dude tell me that " to anime to countinue its need to sell dvd\bluray well"
anyway thanks for the info its makes me feel a little happy about anime future

Can't they, for once, judge a show by it's entertainment value rather than the amount of cute girls they can fap at?
Judge? What does judgement have to do with sales? Most people around here are one of the most vocal and judgmental of the whole internet and how does that translate into sales? You need to understand that what matters are the sales numbers, not people's judgements. The Japanese didn't find the anime entertaining enough to spend their money on it, that's it. Why they reached that conclusion, it's the big question.

Nichijou just lacks the moeblobs of other recent KyoAni work, I think. I enjoy the show, but I don't really "care" about any of the girls in it like I do for the majority of the other shows done by KyoAni... and the severe lack of any doujins for them shows me that I'm likely not the only one that feels that way.
Thats not to say they don't like it. Its just when you are going to pay 70-80 dollars for a BD (and likely 600+ since otaku tend to be OCD and want the entire series), you need to REALLY like it. Nichijou just doesn't have the same kinda love as the other KyoAni shows.

I'd say it's wrong to say it sells poorly because of it, but for this kind of show, it's not farfetched to say it's not selling a lot because of it. That is, the lack of characters who induce moe feelings in a significant majority of viewers does not doom a show to average/low sales, but it can be an impediment to making high sales. Never underestimate the power of character love in getting otaku to open their wallets. Otaku don't do so for pure comedies very often.
.
Exactly. I see this show similar in a lot of ways to Lucky Star... but the big difference is that it was a lot more character driven, which helped drive its sales which ended up at about 30k or so per volume. Comedy can sell, but you also need characters that will drive those sales, and sadly Nichijou is lacking a bit in the character department. I like the show, but I can't even remember any of the characters names outside of Yuuko and Mio.
