Hope its a reboot thats close to the manga.
I have only read the manga and have not seen the anime. I really enjoyed the manga, and when I found out the last part/ending of the manga was never animated, and how a good chunk of the series is filler, i've been hesitant on checking the anime out and still am.
I just wasn't looking forward to sitting though a bunch of episodes that where not in the manga, only to be treated to an anime original ending, thats lame compared to what was in the manga. If the anime only had 24-26 eps that would be one thing, but Kenshin has 90+ eps!
...Feel free to correct me if I heard wrong about all of this.
So just watch the 54 episodes that are faithful. The filler is after Shishio's arc.
So after the first 54 episodes is all the filler I heard about? Well that makes it easy to skip...thats if I decide to do that. (I almost never skip filler episodes when I watch an anime straight though for the first time. Only time I ever did was the Endless 8 episodes of Haruhi and 1-2 episodes of One Piece.)
^ this. You'll have to skip some of the first episodes too. If you're OK with skipping character intros just start head-on with the Saito x Kenshin fight. And then stop when Kenshin goes back to Tokyo.
My memory's a tad rusty, but...wow. You're asking someone to skip the first 26 episodes, when only like one or two of them are filler?
I have to agree, that is quite a jump. Granted, some of the first mini story arcs in the manga where filler-ish in a way, but still...
Plus, 1-2 filler eps in between the manga material I don't mind at all.
EDIT: 100th post! =D
It's just my opinion, anyway. And it's not just one or two filler episodes in the first 26. My memory's a bit rusty too, but I think there's a lot more.

okay so when are they going to announce more of this? I'm sure people really want to see the last half of the manga..
IMO it would be nice to see the ENTIRETY of manga re-animated. With the current capabilities of animation studios, it would be one of the most awesome things one would ever have seen.

OMG, amazing, rurouni kenshin in HD, i can't wait to watch the newly made episodes *.*
It'd be amazing if it covered all the manga events.
Agreed, it's going to be amazing! I'm also wondering what they are going to take for the new soundtrack. It'll be hard to top the old one, anyway.

I just cant imagine Kenshin with any other voice actor!!! When watching the anime yeaaaaars ago when I was an anime noob, I was completely baffled to discover a woman voiced a male character.
I am still baffled by it, but her voice is something I can get used to it. Especially rewatching Tsuiokuhen a few billion times I've come to prefer the Jap VA. Admittedly the subs for Tsuiokuhen were terrible...
Really? The subs for Tsuiokuhen were that bad? I don't know, I watched the DVD version. (However, the font....arghhh yellow and ugly).
Watch it with the dub and turn on the subs, you will understand
That doesn't really work. Companies are known to change stuff in the dub. so the lines in the dub =/= the orignal japanese lines. therefore the susb shouldn't be exact either.

o.o Why are they making another anime? The manga and anime was not as good as people claimed to be anyway IMHO.
you've been living under a rock?
The series is mediocre/average at best (yes, I finished the anime and manga). And no, I haven't been living there.
...lol. Can't please everyone. Fortunately, you are in the minority here, and we're getting more RK.
but i admit it is not worth the score i gave it.
Re-read it again. You'll realize it's not nostalgia goggles. It's just a great series.

Why have there been no updates since the initial announcement? *sob*
Athena-san! You are still alive!
Probably because they are working on it...? Shana took like 2 years for a final sequel in spite of its early (very early) announcement
