Impacts of the Massive Earthquake on Anime

According to the official twitter, light novel author & anime writer Ubukata Tow and his family escaped unhurt from the earthquake hit Tohoku area of Japan on March 11th. He said some of the furniture in his study fell down and his cell phone and PC have been destroyed. Ubukata is living in Fukushima, which is close to the most devastated area by the quake and the following tsunami.

Shitaya Tomoyuki tweeted that one of the work rooms of J.C. Staff was completely messed up by the earthquake. J.C. Staff has resumed working in a couple of hours after the quake.

Miyamoto Yukihiro (the series director of "Mahou Shoujo Madoka★Magica") tweeted that the staff of SHAFT are cleaning up the scattered papers of the key and in-between animations of Madoka Magica and trying to contact the animators. Miyamoto found a crack in the pillar of the building.

According to the official twitters, the airing of some anime will be delayed due to the extension of news programs:

Onii-chan no Koto nanka Zenzen Suki Janain Dakara ne!! episode 9 on BS11

Besides Japan is very resilient in these types of situations, they are usually prepared for these kinds of natural disasters. They were prepared for the quake, but the tsunami unfortunately caught them off guard in the miyagi prefecture area right out side of tokyo.

Like everyone i hope japan recovers from this, but knowing there technological advance society, i have hope for them. I still feel for all the others that have lost there lives though.

You want to know something thats totally crazy and screwed up. I watched Magnitude 8.0 like march 5th. Prior to this entire incident and then the quake hits japan like a week after. That is just weird. How do you explain that? Coincidence maybe?

Try 8500 dead, 13,000 missing, but outside of the casualty toll, yeah some of the posts are a bit overblown.

We all pray for Japan.
It's noticeable how organised and ready to take action they are.
If this happened where I come from (Greece) it'd take years to recover.

With the threat of nuclear kaboom and the devastation from the quake, anime should be the last thing on a priority list. I watched some stuff i had since last weekend and quit after a while because i felt vaguely ashamed and callous to be enjoying myself when the people that made it might even be dead. Irrational, when it comes down to it but still... i just can't understand the people bitching about delayed anime.

The most terrifying part of this whole ordeal is the hard to swallow fact that this earthquake is actually not the "Big One" that Japan has braced itself for more than a decade now. This earthquake originated in a completely different fault, far away from the fault that created that dreaded Kanto Earthquake from 1923. This means that the risk of another big earthquake in a not-so-distant future is actually pretty real, especially for the southern regions that didn't suffer the direct effects of the last one.

Although areas around Tokyo didn't suffer so much damage, planned electrical outage or social misgivings and disorder of conveyance, are causing people to buy and stock up foods, so there's a lack of foods problem even in Tokyo or Kanagawa and other Kanto prefectures.
And there's a radioactivity problem as well. So, this situation may continue for a while...*sigh*

My heart goes out to Japan.
The day it happened I stayed home with mom watching the news all day long.
We got really emotional cause we went through a pretty big earthquake too when I was 13.
It was the one that hit Turkey with 7.8/10 and that one used to be the biggest one in decades.
Since then allot of bigger earthquakes happened but every time it does me and my mom pray and hope for the best.

Japan is strong,Ive never seen a country be so calm after such disaster!

There's a saying that say that 2 never comes without 3 and Japan already blew up twice.

Also:

On a more serious note I would say that I hope and pray that most people in Japan did and will not die from this. This is a hard time but I beleive that they were far more prepared than we were so I guess that wishing them good luck is about all I can do.

On a less serious note I wish this will have cleaned a lot of useless people, as immoral and cruel this may sound there's some people wich I wouldn't mind being dead. I don't talk about your usual citizen, I don't talk about the poor living in the street having a hard life, I don't talk about the corrupted people, I talk about all these fatass otaku that idolise animated character as living being and that are complaining all over the internet that their anime is being delayed.

Anyway, good luck Japan.
