Let's talk about Rock. To put it simply, Rock has a solid start and also some good points. Warning for spoilers.
First of all, I personally liked the art. It is no "outstanding" art, but every panel seems to be filled to the brim with life, details and the likes, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
The story is also very good, basically. In a world, where it is all about making toys, this very thing becomes forbidden and ourt MC Rock sets out for an adventure. As far as I can see, the setting is rather unique and therefore creates a lot of possibilities, which are partly used.
...
Each of the three volumes covers a different city, that the MC visits and they all have their own little story with a small "villainous" person set up. Some parts of the story telling or the characters involved may come acros as cliche, but that was not an issue here.
Now, here comes the big problem: the ending. Or more, how it is conveyed and integrated into the story. For the most part of the story, there is an underlying theme and motivation of not only rebuilding the Clocktower in the home city, but also finding Hacchi, the creator of Rock. Furthermore, there is also the motivation opf Nana, to become the greatest Negar in the world. This is all fine, but after the third city, none of these goals is anywhere near to be achieved. It is the complete opposite, becuase the whole manga gives you the feeling, that the great adventure has just begun.
After the third story, which ends with a girl and her puppet-toy finding happiness, the story ends with a short cut to a few panels with a character that symbolizes the author. He tells the reader, that the story ends here, because he didn't think the story any further. However, this is a good end, because it finished with a character achieving happiness. This is nice and all, but with the hopes of a great adventure happening, all the unachieved goals within the story and untied ends, it just leaves a bitter taste and makes the characters feel much more shallow, than they could have been.
To finalize this review, I will say the following: I cannot recommend this Manga by good heart to anyone hoping for a bigger story and a satisfying ending. If you just want something to read for the art with a unique setting, go for it. Sadly, the ending takes away too much for me to have a good feeling afterwards, therefore 4/10
