Quoting author, "This manga is about girls flirting with each other".
Majo to Houki to Kurobuchi Megane is not exactly what you'd expect from title or synopsis. Sure, it's very lighthearted, cute SoL, but comedy is based on lolicon, yuri and S&M jokes. There is barely any magic and even less drama. I'm not saying it's a bad thing, mind you. Actually, in my opinion, it worked wonderfully. Mix of those elements gave this manga unique feeling that I'm really going to miss. Jokes were really funny and didn't feel repetitive. Slice of Life part worked well without any forced methods of keeping story interesting. Characters,
...
even if simple, had really interesting and diverse personalities.
There might not be yuri genre in description, but trust me, it's as yuri as it gets. We get female-only cast with multiple obvious pairings. What really deserves mention is how their relationships develop and they get closer - it's not something one would expect from 4-koma comedy.
Art, on the other hand, is what you'd expect from this kind of manga. Simple, without many details, with very basic backgrounds, it sure isn't anything special. Still, it's not ugly either, and it shouldn't make reading any less pleasant.
Aforementioned basic backgrounds can bother some readers. Personally, few times I had problems to see where the action is taking place because of those.
Character designs are good. They are unique and don't overlap. Their positions and movements also didn't give me any problems with understanding their actions.
To my dismay there wasn't any ecchi. I have to admit it worked very well without it, but I believe it's kind of manga that would benefit from few scenes.
Overall, Majo to Houki to Kurobuchi Megane is one of the more enjoyable titles I've read. Good comedy with very cute characters and satisfying ending: what else can one need?
