Watashitachi no Tamura-kun (Our Dear Tamura-kun) is a sappy Slice of Life, Romance, Comedy, Drama that has the characteristic love triangle set-up, but it can be really absorbing and unpredictable.

Just like with your average romance manga of this calibre, the story is told from the point of view of your ordinary teenager named Yukisada Tamura. He becomes romantically involved with two very different girls, during two separate points in his school life and this eventually becomes a problem as the two separate relationships converge. The way the story’s told is rather captivating, because the reader follows the experiences of the protagonist. Seeing how he becomes ... acquainted with each girl, gets to know them and then learns of their troubled lives. Though for such a short manga this certainly went off to a slow start and it didn’t really pick up until the end of the 1st volume. Nevertheless the lack of clichés certainly makes for a great romantic story. That’s what I would like to say however the increasingly sappy romance did lead to an unsatisfactory anti-climax, of a conclusion.

When it comes to the characters, this manga undoubtedly has a great bunch although I have mixed feelings about the protagonist. Sure Yukisada is a normal guy who can act like both an upstanding guy and a total jackass; however his fickle attitude tends to get a bit annoying from time to time. Then there are the perplexing girls: Komaki Matsuzawa who initially felt like a real weirdo & Hiroka Souma who came across as a cold-hearted bitch. What makes them the more interesting has to be the narrative style of writing, because you’ll learn more about them through our protagonist’s perspective.

Well even with such an above average story and characters, the artwork for this manga is rather average. Strangely enough it is the scenery that stood out to me and not the characters, which were quite roughly drawn on the other hand the rough style did help in portraying the characters’ erratic thought patterns.

Overall Watashitachi no Tamura-kun is an absorbing narrative of the romantically inexperienced protagonist, his trials of romance and the hardships that come with it. It’s easy to become totally absorbed from witnessing these experiences, though I had a slight problem with how overdramatic the characters tend to get. It’s quite odd how such a guy ended up with the two cute girls, but the circumstances that got them together are what made the story interesting in the first place. People who enjoy ‘shipping’ would certainly like this romantic set-up, because your favourite heroine may constantly change as you progress. Personally I was pleased with the outcome but disappointed with the anti-climatic conclusion.

The mangaka does an excellent job delivering the story from beginning to end. Watashitachi no Tamura-kun is short and simple, yet has powerful, realistic characters that you can relate to.

The story is simple and satisfying. There are no intricate branches of plot or created plot holes. This is a straightforward, romantic story about a small love triangle and the feelings associated with such things. Nothing great by itself, but with great character interactions and ... development, and many lighthearted scenes, it fits Watashitachi no Tamura-kun perfectly.

The art is drawn in a light, casual style. The backgrounds and characters are drawn very well, and I have nothing to criticize. The mangaka did an excellent job.

Overall, Watashitachi no Tamura-kun was a very enjoyable read, and I definitely recommend checking this 20-chaptered manga out!

Really everyone that likes a good romance story should read this! Really! The plot is not complex or anything, but the way the mangaka tell it, is just so amazing that it can get everyone to cry. The character development was really good, they overcome difficult situations and learn wit their mistakes. I had an amazing time reading this manga, while reading the last chapter, I eventually caught myself in tears because of the story. It's really amazing, and my score for this manga is a solid 10. Anyway, I recommend this for every single people that like Romance+School Life+Shounen.
