Koi Nanka Hajimaranai is a high school romance between Makoto and popular boy Kanna who always teases her.
There's barely any story to this story, honestly. It's more just an excuse for heart throb type situations, if this is the type of romance that floats your boat. To be perfectly honest, I found it rather shallow for that reason.
Also, this manga kind of distasteful to me. Like the fact that the teasing is one sided, and Makoto doesn't really get it, and Kanna is constantly pulling her hair and calling her stupid. If it weren't so one sided, or if Makoto clearly understood it
...
as friendly teasing, I'd maybe not mind, but since it's not that way, it's honestly kind of mean. Or the fact that Kanna never honestly tells Makoto they're essentially already dating, and Makoto is too dense to figure it out. He just keeps alternating between this type of abuse and affection so that Makoto doesn't really trust in him at all. Worse, then he acts all passive aggressive and possessive whenever she interacts with other guys, which she does out of the assumption that she and Kanna aren't actually dating. All this would be solved if Kanna would just tell her. Then there's the sort of meta implication that it's really all Makoto's fault for just being too stupid to get it. Maybe some readers might think so too, but I think that's blaming the victim. She keeps getting blamed for being dull witted and weak, and Kanna infantalizes her for it constantly too, treating her like she's incapable of doing anything herself, and literally calling her a house pet.
All that said, I completely get that this isn't supposed to be some messed up abusive relationship, it's supposed to be just cute wish fulfillment for those who like this type of romance. It's just that it's problematic, and likely to squick some people for that reason. But even if you like this type of teasing romance, surely there's others out there that are less thin and less weird for having characters date but not because one didn't notice.
