Though KNB is a story set long after sports related trauma bears its consequences on both prodigious children and run of the mill children, while Diamond no Kouzai is a psychological exploration of the kind of situations that cause such trauma to happen, both really make a case that sometimes sports are THAT serious for the people involved, as they affect relationships, personalities, goals... just like any sort of collective human activity does. Both works make a point that sports are something to be enjoyed with others, and winning or losing isn't what's defining about them.

Both are baseball manga where main character has struggle fitting in with the teammates due to some past event. In that sense they are quite psychological as main characters blame themselves for events that have been caused by other people. Ookiku is old series while Diamond is quite new. There is also something about the artstyle, the way characters are drawn that feels similar between those series. If you liked one, you could try checking out the other.
