Don't be put off by the first few chapters! It gets better and more wholesome as the plot progresses. The vibe just completely shifts into a feel-good story very soon so readers should push through the bitter opening chapters to enjoy the sweet taste later.
The premise is simple but I think the author took extra care with it rather than rushing things to create a story that comfortably extends to 20 chapters without being dull.

eyes that used to be intimidating just soften with time. And well well well, the interaction between Emu and Fukutomi is worth the wait! Very satisfying. The drama is also neatly done. Working to pay off debts is nothing to be happy about but the working experience Emu is kinda uplifting to read.
Totally vouch for this story for anyone who needs a positive push in life or at least, it's hopeful enough to drag one out of the dull reality, even if it's just for 20 chapters. I know we don't easily get as lucky as Emu to get our life problems resolved so I enjoy getting immersed in the rags-to-riches story once in a while (while manifesting one for myself lol).
