I just read this one, after I bought the Spanish translation. Gents you wouldn't believe how well Moto Hagio returns to Alan and Edgar as characters and the whole vampire mystery of their lives as they interact with both humans and other vampirnellas. At last!
We've got lore that makes sense with what was published on the 70's, to the point I'm not clear what is new (aka retconing done well) or what was lore omitted way back then bc ratings and censure, we've got Edgar revealing more of what's his deal with the Poe clan (and oh wow the horror of being a vampire
...
comes through really well) and we got more on his relationship with Alan which I was starved for, Blanka as the human of this arc is pretty good and I wasn't expecting her ending at all, etc.
I will not reveal more I will just say that it's noticeable that Moto Hagio has some more decades of experience and that she's publishing the new Poe stories in a josei magazine instead of shojo. There's maturity showing; some of thbe things that were implied on the og are much clearer here. It means that the fairytale vibe is a bit lost, but our protags are as spooky and liminal as always and so I think the story as a whole benefits from the clarity.
Anyways I totally rec for fans of the Por clan or Moto Hagio to get this one if you can.
