That was a decent start to this series. I dig the pirate theme as well as the OP/ED and hand-drawn animation style and Jim seems like a likeable MC so I'm looking forward to see more of this.
I probably regret this post by now.

As usual, we've got our typical anime silhouette pointless running and dramatic views over cliffs. Oh, and the little animal partner, too. Good to see them kickin'. Nah, I'm pretty glad to see any kind of pirate media, I think it's woefully underused nowadays.

P decent first ep, I'm aware of the premise of the book but most of the stuff beyond the beginning is unknown to me. Not sure if I like this arstyle too much though I like the celluloid and hand drawn effect

From my ignorance of the original story, I had assumed the pirate in this episode was Long John himself, but it seems not. Ah, well I look forward to meeting the man himself. Jim is a good kid.

Probably most adaptations of Treasure Island skip over Billy's arrival at the inn and his interactions with Jim to get the plot moving faster; it's understandable how a movie-length version of the story has to get going but I like that this much longer adaptation can take the time to linger a little, like the original story does.

I'm not fond of its rendition of the "dead man's chest" song, though. It's a sailor's song; it's supposed to be boisterous and jolly (despite the grim lyrics). Here Billy just mumbles it.

As someone who adores Stevenson's Treasure Island, this was an excellent first episode. I'm interested to see if they keep Jim's narration going; I enjoyed it here. The characterization of him and Billy Bones was really enjoyable, and Dezaki's direction, while not quite to his Rose of Versailles or Ashita no Joe 2 level, is stellar.
