I liked this little story for the most part, it's certainly better than many yaoi mangas I've read in the past. But throughout the entire thing, I just couldn't get myself to like Kengo or really trust his feelings for Hidetoshi, and I think that's because he was so forceful and also very clearly in lust, not so much in love, with him. This is especially evident in how his relationship with Hidetoshi was very dependent on sex (and when he tried to get him to do it he was always like "you've gotta repay me", "c'mon I'm tired of waiting, let's just do it", etc.). He was basically forcing him into having sex much of the time. Hidetoshi even says it once, "I don't want to". I was actually angry at the scene where he just gets him from behind in the last chapter. It never really made me feel like Kengo cared about Hidetoshi in those moments, only about himself (and I think I remember Kengo saying he's selfish a few times in the novel but I mean seriously? You don't have to take advantage of him). Also, he was so hostile toward him about breaking up with Kanazawa. He was DEMANDING that Hidetoshi break up with him, like it was Kengo's business to dictate his life. Now I understand why he would act like that and I get that he did it with good intentions, but honestly it seems like Kengo is more like a hostile older brother or something! I feel like he could've gone about that situation much more delicately. I mean he loves Hidetoshi, he should be sensitive about his feelings. It made me think, "how is Kengo any better than Kanazawa?" It's a harsh thought, but Kengo certainly has some growing up to do, like Shibuya mentioned at the reunion ("this is the only area where you've matured"). So what do you guys think? I'd love to hear some thoughts. |

I agree with you. It would be better if Kengo was more sensitive to his partner. But I think it will come with time. Probably Kengo isn't bisexual at all, he's completely gay and now really enjoys sex for the first time... so it's pretty understandable that the first months of relationships will be filled with constant sex. It's a good way to become confident about love you both have in the beginning of your relationships - through sex. They are tender to each other plus Hidetoshi enjoys it no less, so everything is okay. I was the same. I loved (and still do) my partner more than anything, but wasn't confident that I deserve love from her, so I could gain confidence only through sex. What's not okay - is the message that the victim of domestic violence is guilty. Even if sometimes the victim can prevent it, it's still unacceptable. There are thousands of things that can make your partner be jealous, and mostly (again from my personal experience, since I am extremely jealous) they are pure nonsense caused by lack of self-confidence and your own personal traumas. |
