I know this thread is probably dead, but I figured I'd reply with some of my own thoughts about the topic.
If you can read Japanese, you can easily get them off of Amazon JP, Mandarake or Bookwalker's Japanese store (if you prefer digital copies over physical). Though I recently checked Viz Media's list of manga they have and it seems as though Inubaka is taken off of that list. So finding an official English translation, let alone scanlations, would be very difficult.
I also don't know too much about licensing. But assuming that Viz (theoretically) does pick up the series again to rerelease it in some form and finish the series, the series has ended in Japan for about a decade now and it might be tougher for Viz to reacquire the rights to redistribute it. Especially since they probably didn't make enough sales with volume 17 (I think this was right after the Great Recession in 2007-2009 and things were struggling to get back on track. Don't quote me on that since I might be a bit wrong with that piece of information).
I'm on the same boat as many fans of the series who want Viz to finish translating the series since there's only 5 volumes remaining that aren't in English. But since the series isn't a currently running or new series in Japan, it might be in the company's best interest to just focus their resources on series that provides revenue than to finish what they dropped to satisfy a small percentage of fans. It sounds shitty, I know, but that's the only reason I can think of with this predicament.
I love Inubaka and I have all 17 volumes that I bought when I came across it at a local bookstore when I was in high school. I understand the sadness that comes from reading a series, only to find it's suddenly discontinued in the middle of the story. It's not fair to the fans and maybe some people who helped translate the series wanted to see it to the end. I can only assume since I am not in the manga industry. I do apologize for the ramble and if it seems like my wording/thoughts are all over the place. I just wanted to share some of my sentiment to those who love the series and wanted to read it until the end. |
