| I think Tankery sounds very cute and I've adopted using it in reference to actual tank usage in real life and in video games, but Sensha-Do is fine too. Either one, I guess I don't really have a preference on the matter of the two real options. However, for subs - it will likely be whatever you saw on Hulu - as they just stream Funimation's episodes. The chance of Funimation going and re-subbing the episodes - instead of using the same script for the DVD/BD release - is extremely low. I mean like nonexistent, as it'd be a waste of time and money. Not impossible though. |

Not impossible though. Yeah, I'm ok with Tankery. I wouldn't be heartbroken even if they did use that for the DVD subs. Still, it's reassuring to hear that Hulu usually uses the publisher's subs. Really, the only real reason I prefer Sensha-Do is it's one of the few words I can pick out from the audio, so I hear it no matter what the subs say. haha Not 'usually'. Hulu does not subtitle anime or license it. They are literally being paid by Funimation to air Funimation's episodes. Which is why the chances of them being changed are slim to none, as they already subbed it and released those subs, there's no reason they'd go through and change something like that later. edit - as mentioned below, I meant Sentai, not Funi. I just got mixed up. |

| Just want to correct something: Sentai Filmworks is the US Licensor and BD/DVD distributor of Girls und Panzer and not Funimation. Anyway, I think it's clear that Tankery will be used for the English dub since it was already on the english dub trailer and on the BD/DVD package. Not sure about the english subs though. I'm cool with Sensha-do or Tankery whichever they use. |

| There is more than one system of Romanization of Japanese words. So the commonly-seen Romanizations of 戰車道 are Sensha-do Sensha-dō Sensha-dou 戰 means "war". 車 means "cart" or "wheeled vehicle". 戰車 means "tank" or "war cart". 道 means "the way of" or "the art of" or "Tao" or other possibilities. Picky people might object that "Sensha-do" really corresponds to a different sound when spoken in Japanese compared to the other two spellings. Strictly speaking, to write "Sensha-do" sounds like it is saying 洗車度 or 戦車度, which are both nonsense phrases. Given that anime fans usually have some level of interest in learning a few words of Japanese, it seems a shame to be teaching everybody the wrong pronunciation of 道, which is an extremely common word. In "Girls und Panzer", the whole concept of 戰車道 makes wonderful sense. But there is no concise way to express the idea using a single English word. Rather than making up a brand-new unfamiliar English word, it makes more sense simply to Anglicise the Japanese word. Besides, that is what happens 99% of the time when new technical terms introduced in the English-speaking world are accepted into other languages. On the other hand, there are some countries that often insist on creating brand-new words in their own language in order to maintain the internal consistency of their language or for other reasons.
