Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn
–PROLOGUE–
The stage is the Prime Ministers official residence “Laplace” on the night of New Years Eve. The calendar change from Anno Domini to Universal Century is just about to begin and to mark the momentous occasion, it’s being held on the bridge between the Earth and outer space. The main character is a man named Siam Vist and he is considered to be a key player in the tale of the box.
The first half of the story sets up the events in 0001 and then fast-forwards to UC0096. At the time of the terrorist event (blowing up of the Prime Ministers residence), Siam was only 17 years old. So when the second half of the prologue opens up, he’s 113 years old. Normally someone would be dead at this point, however he was kept alive in a cryostasis. However, with the Earth Federation and Anaheim Electronics vying for the contents of the box, Saim vows to release the contents of the box before he passes on. Thus begins the battle between the Federation, Anaheim and the Vist Foundation for the contents of the box…
Day of the Unicorn: Part 1
It is the year 0096 of the Universal Century, a time in which humanity, due to its overgrown population, has been forced to emigrate into outer space. The war between the Principality of Zeon, which carried the cause of spacenoid independence, and the Earth Federation government has long been over, and the Earth Sphere is in a brief period of tranquility.
The Garancieres, a disguised freighter of an anti-government organization nicknamed “The Sleeved,” has entered port at “Industrial 7,” a manufacturing colony constructed in a deadlocked space area. There objective is to receive "Laplace's box" from the Vist Foundation, the Earth Sphere’s largest conglomerate. However, unbeknownst to the Garancieres’ crew and their Captain Jinneman, a young girl had stowed away aboard their ship.
It is said that if Laplace's box were opened, it would mean the overthrow of the Federation- thus by hiding it, the Vist Foundation has maintained its prosperity. At a lot inside the colony, the head of the Foundation, Cardius Vist, is present at the operation trial of a new mobile suit model: the Unicorn. While it is a weapon developed under absolute secrecy by the Earth Federation, it is at the same time a machine imbued with Cardius’ longstanding desire to open Laplace's box.
Barnarge Lynx, by chance, witnesses the pure white mobile suit. Upon the death of his mother, Barnarge, an illegitimate child, has been invited by his unknown father to Industrial 7, where he has joined Anaheim Electronics. Unable to adapt to his current lifestyle, the encounter with Unicorn leaves behind a vivid impression on him.
Meanwhile, the stowaway girl has slipped out from the Garancieres, but on the way to the Colony Builder, her destination, she is thrown out into a zero gravity zone by accident. Barnarge happens to see her and runs toward a petite mobile suit shipping area in order to save her.
Day of the Unicorn: Part 2
As the strong winds of the colony’s early morning skies blow violently, Barnarge succeeds in rescuing the drifting girl in his Tolro 800 petit mobile suit, and makes an emergency landing in a colony park. When the girl asks Barnarge to show her the way to the Colony Builder, he refuses to cooperate with her. The girl gives him a cold look and walks away.
After the police have investigated him, a pursuer sent by Jinneman (who apparently knew of the girl stowaway) named Marida appears before Barnarge. Marida attacks him, and Barnarge yields the girl’s whereabouts to her. After Marida leaves, Barnarge, who can’t get over his unsightliness in what just happened, goes after the stowaway girl.
At that moment, the Earth Federation Assault Cruiser Nahel Argama is approaching Industrial Seven. Aside from its general battle strength, the Nahel Argama is also deployed with the Special Forces unit known as the “Manhunter Unit” and a man named Arbello, a top executive at Anaheim Electronics. The ship is under secret orders to prevent the opening of Laplace’s box*.
In the colony’s commercial district, adjacent to the Industrial Department, Barnarge uses construction equipment to trap Marida and the other Sleeved pursuers, whom had surrounded the stowaway girl. The girl’s objective, the Colony Builder Magallanica, looms just before them.
Day of the Unicorn: Part 3
After trapping their pursuers, Barnarge and the girl, who reveals her name to be “Audrey Burn,” arrive at the Colony Builder Magallanica. The spectacle of the interior of the Vist Foundation’s extravagant mansion, which is located in Magallanica’s residential district, evokes a measure of déjà vu in Barnarge. Just then, Cardias Vist, the head of the Vist Foundation, appears before the bewildered couple. Barnarge was hoping that they would both continue on together, but he is refused that wish not only by Cardius, but by Audrey as well. He is thus left behind by both of them.
Meanwhile, the Manhunter Unit “ECOAS” has commenced its raid on the Colony Builder. Having infiltrated the colony, ECOAS, under the command of Daghda Mac Cull, advances towards the Colony Builder with two Loto mobile suits hidden behind masses of rock. Simultaneously, an MS force from the Nahel Argama sorties as backup. The pilot of the variable MS ReZEL, Liddy Masenas, tries to suppress his excitement at what may be his first actual battle as he heads for Industrial 7.
Cardius informs Audrey that the Laplace box transaction will take place at the Magallanica. He is certainly attempting to entangle all expectations as to who will come into possession of the Laplace box.
Day of the Unicorn: Part 4
Turned away from Magallanica, Barnarge takes part in a party at Micott’s house. But given his pain at being rejected by Audrey, he anguishes by himself and only finds the clamor of the party unpleasant.
At that moment, the secret talks between Cardius and Jinneman concerning the transfer of the Laplace box are beginning. Cardius reveals to Jinneman (who is trying to ascertain the true nature of the box) that he did not intend to hand over the box itself, but rather the box’s key. He hints that the key has a connection with Newtypes. However, the talks end unexpectedly, as hostilities have opened between the Nahel Argama and The Sleeved.
The battle, which began out of an accidental encounter, has expanded into the colony’s interior, causing massive damage and creating panic among the inhabitants. As the Special Forces unit ECOAS begins to rush Magallanica, Audrey takes advantage of the confusion in order to escape the mansion in which she had been confined. Fearing that the Federation might steal the box, Cardius orders the destruction of the mobile suit that will become the key- the Unicorn. Barnarge, expecting that Audrey is still there, heads for Magallanica, however…
Day of the Unicorn: Part 5
As he heads for Magallanica, Barnarge separates from his friends Takuya and Micott to search for Audrey. Chased by the flames from the explosions, Barnarge loses his way and finds himself in the factory block, where a white, single-horned mobile suit is waiting for him.
There, an injured Cardius appears. Realizing that fate has brought them together for the second time, Cardius entrusts the Unicorn to Barnarge and confesses to him that he is his real father. Confused, Barnarge awakens to his sealed memories. Cardius musters the last of his strength to register Barnarge’s biological data in the Unicorn, and then perishes in the flames.
Having to bid farewell to his father after their sudden reunion and angry at the unreasonable loss of countless lives, Barnarge, shivering in the Unicorn’s cockpit, hears Audrey’s voice resound in his consciousness. Half-conscious, Barnarge launches in the Unicorn. In order to push Marida’s Kshatriya out of the colony, Barnarge initiates a counterattack, but finds himself cornered. At that moment, the NT-D System activates and the Unicorn reveals its true form—that of the legendary mobile suit Gundam. With astounding mobility, the Unicorn Gundam overwhelms the Kshatriya. Marida is forced into an inevitable retreat, and leaves Industrial Seven with Jinneman and the others.
The Nahel Argama recovers the Unicorn, and watching them intently is the forerunner of Neo Zeon’s rebirth- Full Frontal. There was not yet a reason for the people to know the sort of fate in which they had been involved. |
