I was in Tokyo in March 2008 and (of course) I went to Ueno Park. It was late March and the cherry blossoms had started blooming. I think I had thought about the building in this photograph http://www.flickr.com/photos/8936205@N02/2415897682 when I went there because I was distinctly puzzled when I didn't remember seeing it. After I got back to Canada I studied my February 2005 photos and then my March 2008 photos and came to the conclusion the building had been demolished.

Anyways, if you watch the Otogi Zoshi episode that focuses on Ueno Park then you'll see the building in the background near the end of the show. It's a shame that its gone. But it marks the time frame the show was made. Plus it reflects on the thought put into creating the "locations" of the series. It's that attention to detail which makes me appreciate this series more.
