Synopsis
"We never conceal the truth, no subject is taboo. We try to share everything with each other." This is a family rule for the Kyobashi's. The family moved into Danchi, a housing project in a town developed during Japan's economic boom, believing a bright future was awaiting them. But with the passing of time, their hope is reduced to a dream long forgotten. They end up acting a good family, with each member harboring deep secrets. Daughter Mana is habitually skipping classes and spending her time at a large-scale shopping mall; even goes to bed with men she hardly knows. Younger brother Ko is no different, always hanging out on the street, trying to beat a sense of frustration that's been hanging heavy on him for no apparent reason. Father Takashi is busy having affairs, always bossed around by his new lover Mina, and mother Eriko seems to be having a fulfilling life, working part-time at a noodle restaurant and paying frequent visits to her mother Satoko at hospital. But the fact is Eriko is struggling to find out how to relate to her mother while being haunted by memory of her childhood days which she spent in total isolation from society. How long can this aparrently 'open' family conceal their secrets, and what will happen, should they come to light?

The film is available in full with English subtitles on YouTube.

as a fan of Toyoda and also a big fan of itsuji itao i went in to this film with high hopes and they paid off the acting was pretty good and i think it holds a good balance of cynicism and Social Realism i intend to check out some of Toyoda's other works
I know what you're thinking, punk. You're thinking "did he fire six shots or only five?" Now to tell you the truth I forgot myself in all this excitement. But being this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world and will blow you head clean off, you've gotta ask yourself a question: "Do I feel lucky?" Well, do ya, punk?
