THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
We finally got to catch the first glimpse of the Princess. Nice coverage of the background.

Mana really looks being quite tough in her mental strength. And Mako-P looks so cute and funny here. I laugh when she sings in Precure mode

And finally we have the full team formed and their pose looks so sentai (or even jojo?) So cool !
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them?

I wonder how long people would put up with this.

As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series.

So we'll finally see what that weird baby's about...

I was hoping they'd stay in the trump kingdom for a bit longer, Oh well back to the happy formula; on that note the big selfish thing was scary.

Next episode might be the hardest one - I do hope that child won't turn into second Pollun :P

About this one...
I really liked Makopi's attitude here, she wasn't all "I can deal with it myself, you plebeians" but much more likable here. So expect a lot of nice interactions between her and Mana. And of course her lack of common sense actions.
So another missing Queen :P at least this one was kind of badass in fight and there was good reason for her to be gone. So sub-quest is to find her... seems ok (as long as this child won't be some egg of her or anything like this).
Good story in general, nice looking fight - they use some strategy to fight with Bel, great. Also they finally skipped individual transformations in favor of split screen :P

PS. Another nice advertising opening - but it's always good to see first two generations.

The oldman is the strongest among the three villains it seems.

If the villain want to win so bad, they should just spawn mass of Selfish like they did in Trump Kingdom, funny though how many of the people turn into Selfish quite easily, so much for peaceful kingdom.

Another great episode

Things I particularly liked:
- We already got the fast trasformation sequence ( Smile started quite later )
- While I thought Bel made the common villain error of not checking if the hero die or not from its trap, not only he realize if was for the best to check but also didn't waste to destroy the mirror and so their hope
- The fact they defeated ( well, weakened ) Bel already which is an ulterior point for them being the strongest PreCures.
- Badass queen.

Finally, the backstory! It wasn't a bad one either. Definately the best episode so far. And I like the shortened transformations. Hopefully the show stays this good...

That was a really good episode. Now we've finally got our backstory and motivation... Plus the joint transformation scene that was missing last week! And I agree that this is starting to feel more like Heartcatch, which is always a good thing.

Another good episode this week. It’s nice to see the princess actively participating in the fight; the last time I’ve seen something similar to that was in Futari wa. Now that we’ve caught a glimpse of her and Makopi interacting together, it makes me want to see more of their relationship (as in how they met and what made them to be in such friendly terms). Next episode is the infamous baby’s debut… I’m still not accustomed to her design :P

More New Stage 2 clips in the opening = more fuzzy nostalgia. Seeing the Max Heart and Splash Star girls makes me want to re-watch a few episodes of the previous seasons again. It’s a shame that we have to wait for a few months before the DVD gets released, but I’m looking forward to watch this!

Dear Smile Precure...

THIS IS HOW YOU DO A STORY.

I couldn't help but notice that the plot of this series is very similar to that of Smile, only done right.

-We have a glorious royal person, and a giant lord of evil.
-The royal person seals the lord of evil and goes AWOL.
-The evil's three generals want to revive their leader.
-Our Heroes must work to revive the royal person in order to stop said evil.

Except this time the show's history isn't glossed over in five minutes by a mascot as an excuse to have the girls collect little tokens shaped like fruits and animals. You can actually feel something for the backstory, especially since it it directly involves at least one of the main characters.

I'm honestly amazed they haven't broken out the "Collect one or more of these per filler episode" thingies yet. Maybe they'll be relevant to the baby when it shows up.

At least we know the people of the Card Kingdom (I'm calling it that because the ruler of this world isn't Donald Trump) aren't dead. I must wonder about Cure Sword. Since that seems to be her default form, and Makoto is her alias, are there any others like her? Is she not a legendary warrior like the others? Weeeeeeeird.

And I officially love Mana. The way she started laughing made me think she had snapped. But instead she pulls out this hilarious plan that was obviously doomed to fail, but the idea of it was still fantastic. In general I really like Mana's idealism, in that she can do things for others without expecting a reward. Helping others is it's own reward.

Why oh why did they have to call it "Dokidoki" Precure. With a name like that one would expect it to be the kind of mindless and girly thing ignorant people accuse the genre of being, instead this season is shaping up to be the best so far.

Well it certainly isn't stopping people from watching it. The ratings are astronomical in Japan

Not exactly, last time when I was checking it was 5.1% which is typical rating for Precure series (4-7%).

On the other side "kind of mindless and girly thing ignorant people accuse the genre of being" - how being girly became a bad thing? It HAS TO BE girly, cute and optymistic in order to sell toys for it's main audience (little girls), which doesn't exclude more serious themes - first seasons had this, HeartCatch tried to.
So it's a good thing, don't as for it to become second Madoka as Toei is not suicidal :)

since this episode was about the main plot there is a chance it will rise from 5.1% in wensday

It's not, but genre detractors, especially men who like gritty and angsty shows, see the cute characters and colorful opening themes and automatically dismiss it as mindless sunshine and rainbows.

Heard it a lot. And every now and than I hear that Precure should become more mature and focused towards older fans... good that Toei is not suicidal and will keep up with how things are done.

Let's be honest main goal of this franchise is to sell plastic toys to little girls so good amount of rainbows and sunshine is needed, nice that they add some likeable characters and sometimes plot (or a lot of cute/humor stuff like in case of Smile).
And they realising this goal - like if you combine amont of $ that Aniplex and Co made so far from BD and movies of Madoka, it's still less then Precure earns each year (I know different target group but whatever).

So I do undestand your point of view yet in the same time I don't mind it being silly. It's entertaining therefore it's good.

I get the impression you think I'm complaining about Precure being girly and cutesy.

Anything but.

I LIKE these kinds of fun and adorable shows. I'm just saying that people who dislike the genre tend to think that way.

I don't think Dalek-baka meant that you are complaining the show being girly and cutesy. I think we all understand you are complaining about the name of the show gives an easy target for stereotypical view that the show is girly and cutesy. But here I agree with Dalek-baka. At the end the show is targeted towards little girls, and so any name that appeals to the little girls should be a good name. It does not matter what the detractors say - they can always find things to pick on but then since they are not likely to enjoy this genre anyway no matter what name of the show is, I would not mind what kind of impression the show's name is going to give for those detractors. It would be far worse if Toei comes up with a name that may slightly reduces the risk of detractors attacking it but substantially reduces its appeal to little girls.
So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old?

Why did the citizens turn into selfish monsters so fast? Weren't they living in a peaceful utopia, always wearing a smile on their face?

Seems weird to me.
