| I watched the DVDs this weekend and am amazed at how much of a visceral reaction I still get watching the show, even though I have watched the entire show three times now and select episodes up to 6 or 7 times. I still get chills down my spine in the last 5 minutes of episode 9, I still cry in episode 12, and I still explode with joy at the very end. This show is easily my favorite of the past two or three years, and ranks right up there with Ah! My Goddess, Spice & Wolf, and Toradora! as one of my all-time favorites. (Tari Tari is very close, and could potentially pass it once it is available on home video, especially if it gets a BluRay, which WitS deserved.) The extras on the DVD are nothing to speak of, simply some adds and clean opener and closer, as is expected from a Sentai sub only DVD. There is at least one subtitle difference that I noticed in the first episode: when everyone is talking at once and Kanna is hitting Kaito saying she "just feels like hitting him right now." In the Crunchyroll subs it has Mio saying something about a lover's quarrel, in the DVD subs it just has her saying "Stop it, Kanna" or something like that. I prefer the CR version, because that image can be seen as what drives Tetsuro too make the decision to push things forward by asking the new Sempai to be in the movie they are going to make. His discomfort with the girl he likes having a lover's quarrel right in front of him makes him do something reckless. Mio saying it can be seen as a form of manipulation as well. She frequently, very subtly, points out to Tetsuro how much of a lost cause his feelings for Kanna are. I don't know if it is a problem with the subs not showing correctly or them being actually different, and I didn't go back to CR to double check the scene... Anyway, the packaging is standard, with the same basic pastel palate used in the show on the artwork, with little other than the three disks and the case included. |
