I was able to catch up to this anime and finish it today, I thought it was a very nice show with fun characters and I have very little complaints overall.

But as I read the comments about episode 12, almost everyone is complaining that they didn't kiss and some people even say that diminishes the ending and the anime overall? Wow, I guess MAL is filled with middle school aged viewers? C'mon people, this is nonsense.

I would be more satisfied with a kiss (dont you dare to say you wouldn't) but it wont affect my opinion on giving 10 to this anime. It makes us more secure that they really love each other, it's way more refreshing. No kiss then I want a second season! I dont fear a ruined chuunibyou anymore kyoani sure are professionals.

It could be better or worse without the kiss, but with that hug I'm pretty satisfied
Why when romance or love occur, people always think about kissing?

Same way as everyone else I think, a kiss would have been cute, but not kissing I think was just as cute. Kind of shows just how innocent and shy the both of them are... Or at least Rikka, I'm pretty sure Yuuta was about to go for it in episode 11.

I hope you're not serious. The Novel doesn't even have a some of the good characters that were in the anime such as Dekomori and Kumin.

Guess what people, the anime doesn't have to follow the original source 100%, the fact that some of you are still whining is baffling.

You're right, it's not an accurate adaptation, Kyoani turned what was a decent comedy into a pretty mediocre melodrama.

How is it mediocre when there are just a few people who dislike the show? You should really grow up and face with the reality, thing you dislike doesn't mean it's bad.

Treekodar said:

*cough, Clannad AS is one of the best romance/drama ever, and still, without a kiss.

Kissing and stuff aren't necessary, just take a look at sukitte, although there're lots of kissing scenes but the contents are non-existed. What we need is only a few scene when characters show their passionate affection toward each other. In this case, just a warm hug is more than hundred of kisses.

Without kisses = bad romance or whatsoever is so ridiculous.

I think you need to grow up and realize mediocre can be a subjective term.

You also need to learn that the word 'mediocre' does not mean 'bad'.

Also, are you trying to tell me that reception on MAL is an objective way to judge a show's quality? Because, if it is, clearly SAO is a masterpiece and a pioneer of innovative storytelling and animation.

Mediocre is a term to describe average, or run of the mill. For the most part I enjoyed Chuunibyo, but it's last few episodes dropped my overall impression of it.

Your perceptions don't change the meaning of a word.

In my case, chu2 is good enough to stand above most of the show in 2012 in term of comedy with a nice mix of drama/romance. Chu2 is a show you don't get to see often nowadays in a sea of new aired anime.

back to the word "mediocre", it's a word i use to describe something bad, but with a lighter tone.

People lowering their ratings because there wasn't a kiss scene just show how shallow some people are on this site, and that they actually don't put a lot of thought on the way they are ratings their anime.

The drama part was OK for me compared to the anime standard, the problem is that it lacks some balance, The Chuunibyou which was only a lighthearted comedy elements became this really serious issue at the end of this anime. It gave me the impression I was watching two different shows.

Well... It was definitely one of the better 2012 Autumn season animes but that's not saying much.. a 9/10 for effort.. a -1 for the last episode which I will erase from memory. at least most of it ,p

Gotta say I agree that things got a bit too melodrama in ep 12... still it was an cute Anime and that's good enough.

Thank you. I wasn't the only one who thought that the drama was forced and cheap. One episode is hilarious and out of the blue in the next episode, it becomes a "serious" and we're supposed to be able to sympathize with the characters. I thought the drama in the second half of the anime was done very poorly.

Not only that, but I was expecting that the Dark Flame Master would have a fight scene, which didn't happen. Disappointing second half.
I'm also filled with pure-hearted ulterior motives.

Becoz they're numbskulls! (It was just a joke). It was maybe the best anime I've seen this year so I have no complain. No kiss also is more realistic since they're both first-timer lovers. But like most of us... I WANNA OVA WITH KISS!! By the way, I also prefer Dekomori with the new hair

A kiss in this episode would be awkward and it's not needed. Can't you see love and happiness blossoming very bright from their hug and smile?

Let the pure romance pure. A kiss in public is much more western-culture oriented, anyway.

It would have been a very fitting conclusion to the show. I really enjoyed the ending and closure, but I would probably be more likely to raise the score if they did. Shallow yes, but I let my feels guide me.

Kissing isn't necessary in a romance for it to be good. And yes the episode was melodramatic but that was the point since episode 7 I think? When everything started taking a less happy turn. If you think romance is all about kissing then I honestly am confused. I for one am happy they didn't made the ending seem more pure (for lack of a better word). But to each their own. Either way it was a good series.

I can see why people feel they were cheated out of romance, but not because of the kiss. Not once in the finale did either of them say "I love you". Aside from that reunion hug the last few minutes didn't really express their emotions for each other, which makes perfect sense because they've only been able to touch their pinky fingers together so far. If anything the ambiguity of their love for each other is all the more reason to hope for a second season.

You may as well expect a tentacle rape from Kyoto Animation. Not a chance.
As I remember, even in Clannad there were no kisses. Even though they had a damn baby.

People want kissing in anime because they can't get any in their real life...
Just go watch some henitai and leave this excellent anime alone :D :D :D
Art should be left alone by those unenlightened, raw and uncensored as it is, because enough refinement was already done by it's creator, in it's creation.

This anime is excellent indeed, and even without a kiss I didn't decreased the score but I would be more satisfied with a kiss but not in this episode (too bad there isn't any more episodes), if a second season pops up then I demand a kiss. I dont know why a kiss is connected to hentai, people want a kiss not a double penetration you're making it too dramatic.

Heaven forbid people wanting to see a kiss in a romantic comedy. Holding hands and a hug is cute and all, but nothing says "I love you" more than a kiss..

So yes, I believe we have every reason to complain about the lack of one.
