| Title: The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya Genres: comedy, science fiction, slice of life, supernatural Summary: A beautiful girl, Haruhi Suzumiya, has no interest in ordinary humans. She wishes to meet aliens, time travelers, and espers. Watching this weird behaviour is Kyon, the student who sits in front of her and the only one that talks to her. After Haruhi had joined and quit every club, because it was too boring, Kyon unknowingly gives her the idea of forming of her own club. She starts her own club named, The Save our world by Overloading it with fun Suzumiya Haruhi's Brigade (S.O.S. Brigade). Dragging Kyon and others into it, the craziness ensues. Why I like it: First of all the characters are so likable, I found it hard to dislike any of them, and though the characters seem very stereotypical they added new characteristics that did not make me feel that way. Next is that there are two different orders which the show can be seen, Chronological order, or the order the show was broadcast-ed in. The difference between watching these two different ways it almost felt like two separate shows, each with their own perspective and benefits. Lastly I could not stop laughing while watching this, it just makes you smile. With an interesting plot layered on top this show is the standard which I measure everything else I watch. | Title: Death Note (What else would I promote?) Genre: Psychological Thriller, Mystery, Fantasy, Drama, Shōnen Summary: Light Yagami is a sane, level-headed high school teen with the #1 grades in Kyoto and he has aspirations of being a police chief. But... when he watches a strange notebook fall from the sky from his last class of the day, his life changes. He takes on the power of the Death Note, (a notebook, in which, if you write someone's name in it they will die) with the goal of killing all criminals and bad guys in the world. The plot escalates quickly with the introduction of Light's arch-nemesis, L, who is trying to decipher who 'Kira' really is. The two duke it out in a battle of wits, deception, and trickery til the end, who will come out on top? Why you like it: Oh lord, Death Note was my first manga I ever picked up at half-price books, and it's been my favorite ever since. The sheer genius of the tactics and schemes used in the story will entice you and confuse you to no end and, unless you just happen to be an amazing super-genius as well, the plot is almost never obvious. The characters are delightfully amusing each in their own ways, and though the tone of the novel is very dark, there are those characters who will always make you smile. Since it sticks to two main opposing characters, they become very easy to get attached to and, if you're anything like me, you might shed a tear or two. Similar anime/manga: Code Geass, I find it to be almost identical just within a different time and scenario setting, but I haven't finished it yet so don't take my word for that. |

| Currently obsessed with this manga! Title: Girls of the Wild's Genre: Action, Romance, School life, Martial Arts, Romance, Comedy, Webtoons Summary: Wilds high, it has a history of 42 years as a fighting specialist all girls private high school meant solely for the elite. The place Wilds-League is held, the most popular event in the country, the only place in the world where teenage girls have brutal fights with their lives. This year has been changed into a mixed gender school. The only male student- Song Jae Gu, has been granted a full 3-year scholarship regardless of grades. Being someone who had to spend every moment working or taking care of his younger brother and sister, he accepted. But after meeting Queen, the bloody champion of Wild's-League, drenching her in coffee, calling her a "Monster" and getting caught while she was taking a shower... that could prove fatal. -Taken from mangaupdates Why I Like It: Currently I've been obsessed to mangas that have strong female leads that are physically and mentally strong and don't rely on male characters. Also I've been finding that webtoons, a form of manhwa, is so beautiful. Fully colored, they are definitely unique from regular mangas. The paneling of each scene is so much more smoother as well. If you read it from the Webtoons website, instead of clicking on each page, you scroll down. Action scenes, dramatic scenes, any scene flows so much smoother and faster. Plus they have some epic cliffhanger endings. Similar anime/manga: Noblesse and tower of god are other famous webtoons out there. They rank really high on mangafox. As for epic female lead mangas, I would read Tokyo Crazy Paradise or Skip Beat. |
